You want a transfer case that needs rebuilt? You can have mine for free, but it's heavy. I think all it needs is a bearing, but I haven't cracked it open yet.
A stock deuce should be able to cruise comfortably at 52-55 mph. If 45 is your top speed, something is wrong.
Looking forward to seeing the progress. I love these camper conversion threads, too.
I might have missed it (it's late), but why can't you use the PTO to remove the tension again? Stick a temporary shear pin in, make sure the drum lock is disengaged and see if you can run it out enough to take the tension off. Looks like your clutch is already in the IN position, right?
I concur. Is it operational as it is? If so, run it, get through the emergency, then clean the ever-living snot out of it afterwards. Otherwise, you're going to have to do it twice.
There is a locking lever on the passenger side to unlock the drum. The clutch handle on the same side (but closer to the grill) controls whether or not the drive gear and the drum are engaged. For free spooling, the locking lever needs to be unlocked and the clutch needs to be in the "Out"...
This is all covered in the TM's (technical manuals). Parts breakdown, troubleshooting, operation.
How do you know there is anything wrong with it? Every winch I've seen, the top plate is bent, that doesn't mean anything is broken. Get a 9/32 bolt to put in as a temporary shear pin. Check...
You're telling me. It was actually really easy with some help. Out and In in about 4 hours. I was going to do it myself and it would've taken me two days.
Swapped mine tonight with the help of a buddy. Couldn't have gone any smoother.
You have to lift it in from below if the mounts are attached to the case. The passenger side mount cannot drop down from above (well, it could, but it'd be a real pain to wrangle it in there). You'll see why when...
Which bolt do you use to suspend it? Seems like there should be more than one. This is the only part of the process I'm a little unsure on. Also, it looks like it's going to want to tilt backwards if you hook up to it anywhere where it is exposed through the floor. Do you need to catch it...
To that end, after tomorrow, I'll have my take-out t-case and a shipping container left over after the swap. If anyone wants both, I'd give them away for free if you'll just come take them off my hands. Then, you could go through the rebuild process and take pics at your leisure.
I don't want...
