For what it's worth, the G-wagen is now the preferred light-weight Military vehicle around the world. In the past decade Magna Steyr (maker of the G-Wagen) has handily overtaken the previous long-term #1 supplier of light military vehicles, Land Rover. Both have supplied more of the world's...
Wait! I just got new contact lenses today. Are you talking about a 230 or 280 G-wagen? The 230 is fairly underpowered, if it's a 4-door. I think I read the original post wrong!
My opinion, as both a G-Wagen enthusiast and having been in several CUCV's. First, the 280G is a better overall driving G than the 4 or 5 cylinder Diesels, or the 4 cylinder petrol. However, it's not up to the standards of the later G's, specially the V8's.
You will find all G-Wagens far...
No Military Land Rover forum either. Keeping in mind that Land Rovers are used by the US Army, and that military Land Rovers actually show up for the Steel Soldiers rallies, and they go on the trail rides and the convoys, unlike a large portion of vehicles which do have dedicated sections in...
1. I believe the steering is really stiff on these trucks. It does not have a "recirculating ball" steering box, like most later vehicles do when they have manual steering. Since all things are relative, what are you comparing it to? Is the box, tie-rod ends and axle properly lubed? It's normal...
That's a good idea. When I got my lightweight back in 1985, one of the first things I did was cut out pieces of 1/2" foam carpet padding, coat each in undercoating, and then glue them to the underside of the seatbase and firewall. It made a big difference in sound level and comfort, but after...
I just went through this sort of thing on my WC-63's carb. I found that I had to also replace the valve seat/inlet fitting in order for the new rubber tipped needle valve to work right. The needle would not seal completely until I did this, and the float level was so far off I couldn't adjust...
Do you need a gasket for the Rover? I'm pretty sure I have some laying around. Got whole engines laying around for that matter...
On the other hand, if it's for the Mutt, I've got that too I think.
Orrrr... if it's the other kind of Mutt...
Last weekend's rally had 5 Military Land Rovers show up. Just here in little ole East Tennessee.
I still believe it's a shame that we are discriminated against on Steel Soldiers. Land Rovers are at the Steel Soldiers Rallies, and will be again in a few weeks. I haven't noticed any Tatras...

Yeah, a we need a seperate G-Wagon forum! not just a thread! Sorry about going off topic.
So, what do y'all think about all those Aussie Military Land-Rover Perenties which were just auctioned off? Did you see the prices the 6x6's brought?
