Graz, Austria, is where the G-wagen is produced under contract for Mercedes Benz. Magna Steyr, formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch (of Steyr Rifle fame) builds it. The same company that designed and built the Pinzgauer (although it's built in the UK now), and the Haflinger, and many other trucks...
You're right. I don't think the general population here forgets who our allies are. But I think they do forget the fact that they don't all drive Jeeps and HMMWV's.
But I'm still irked everytime I come here and there's no Land Rover forum, yet there are are still forums for the weirdo esoteric...
Just for the record, here in Knoxville at a local D-Day anniversay event, a Military Land Rover was in the front of the vehicle display, and the British National Anthem was played right along with the Star Spangled Banner. But there were no Volvo's. Tatras, Urals, GAZ's or other such vehicles...
From what I've seen my 463.421 G500 is pretty much the same as any other 463 chassis, which is considered stronger than the earlier 460 and 461 chassis (G270 etc.) Mine does have skidplates front, center and rear, and front/rear diff locks, 2-speed transfer case etc. It is a very tough truck, in...
I find this last statement curious. Do you feel that there are only a few "body styles" that were changed for military use? I'm not sure I follow. Certainly there have been civilian Land Rovers with Military adapted bodies, but there are many purpose-designed military Land Rovers, not just...
This I would not doubt at all. The Land Rovers can be failure prone, and are no doubt less reliable overall than the simpler Diesel G-Wagens used by the military. However, I would not catagorize the Lightweight Land Rover as an unreliable vehicle. I believe they are substaintially more reliable...
Thanks for support. Regarding the G-wagens, all I can say is that Denmark must have got one a heck of a deal if they bought 3 G's for the price of a single Land-Rover. Someone definitely got cheated somewhere!

See, people here do care about Rovers! All this time I had felt insulted when I logged in and saw forums for all sorts of Commie rigs and the like, but nothing for the ubiquitous Military Land-Rover.
Like I conceded already, I really don't think there is a need for a Land-Rover forum here...
That's pretty much my point. Why all the forums for these obscure vehicles that never even fought on our side?
Just here in my little part of East Tennessee, I know of at least 6 Military Land-Rovers within 10 miles of me, not counting mine. Yet I've never even heard of a single Tatra, Volvo...
Why is there no forum for Land-Rovers on Steel Soldiers?
I find it astonishing that there are sections on this forum for all sorts of Military vehicles, including virtually unheard of Eastern bloc trucks, like Tatras etc., but yet there is no Land-Rover section?
The Land-Rover is one of the...
There is a problem using 52.525 MHz. It will only work with later radios that have 25KHz tuning steps. Most older US ex-Military radios will not tune this frequency, as they have only 50KHz steps. This includes US radios like the PRC-25, PRC-77, VRC-12, RT-524. Unfortunately, these are amongst...
Fix the leaks first, then the brakes. You need to stop the oil/grease leak before you do anything with the brake system. As already mentioned, replace inner axle seals (front only), axle flange seals (rear only) and hub seals before bothering with the brake system. Otherwise your brakes will be...
I just ordered a copy of ""DODGE VC-1 - WC64KD" by Emile Becker and Guy Dentzer". There are a couple more on eBay. Expensive, but there sure are not many books on the Dodges. So I figure better get what I can.
It seems so strange that the best (or only?) books are written by the Brits and the...
Yes indeed. In my humble opinion, the 416 (U1100) is beyond any question or doubt, amongst the pinnacle of the finest 4x4's to ever set tires on this earth. I can take all my wonderful feelings for every 4x4 I've ever had, add them all up, and it doesn't equal my respect for this truck. The...
No problem. I wanted it for my Dodge WC-63, mainly because the GRC-9 looks so close to the WWII BC1306, but it will work more ham bands. But, I've got a long time to go until the Dodge is ready for accessorizing!
I agree on the export. That radio should be technically ok, but you never know...
Well Bummer... Wouldn't it have been more fair to let the bidders know what you were doing so we could have had a chance to buy it?
Regardless, thanks for letting me know what happened. Thankfully they made more than one!

What happened to the AN/GRC-9? I was bidding and now it's closed early and says:
"This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."
Is it for sale?

Looking really good!
It used to bother me when the brakes were all gunked up with slime. However, I learned last weekend that it's preferable to things being rusted solid. ;)
This would also seem a good time to ask if anyone has a recommendation on a large screwdriver bit to use on those...
Nice job! That's a really nice truck with lots of character and good looks.
I've got to admit, I was momentarily confused when I looked at the thread and realized it's not a 6x6!
