Thanks for all the encouragement. Today I took my first ride in it - Right off the trailer and onto the gravel lot, a whopping 25 feet. I noted the ride was remarkably smooth. ;)
After spending a few more hours with it today, I feel even better than I did yesterday, and this truck is very...
Here you go!
Still recovering from the trip, haven't even made a decent assessment yet. But I do know that it is an ex French Army vehicle, obviously after it was an ex-US vehicle. It has some French modifications, and has been converted to 12V for radio. The bed is pretty beat inside and...
On the way to recover a WC-63. Kind of rough looking, but I think mostly complete and restorable. Certianly I've seen the members here do wonderful things with much less.
So, anyway, is there an SOP or TM or even just a TB on how to explain it to the wife when I get back?
Just trying to be...
Frank, Thanks for the recommendations. I have the Brooklands Dodge book, and several of the TM's, with an original TM 9-810 on the way. I'll search around and see if I can find the "Dodge VC-1 - WC64KD". I'll let my wife handle it, as she loves searching for rare books. Last one I asked her...
Frank, Thanks for the thoughts and advice. A friend may have ended up with that NC air portable, he's acquired about half a dozen from the Southeast US. Hard to believe that many were ever imported here! He's also got a super nice Land Rover 101 Forward Control truck. Those 101's came stock...
Frank, thanks for the recommendation. Yes, I have joined G503, and it does look pretty good and probably I've learned more there than anywhere so far about the WWII Dogges. I'm really new to the Dodge WC trucks, well except for the stories my father used to tell me from his time as an Army...
Maybe we're not looking at the same site and forum? If you click on the link I provided, you should see the top three threads have posts today, with at least a dozen threads with activity in the last few days. I couldn't care less what Bert's blog or the homepage has really. But you're right...
Well... I don't know if it's on autopilot or not, but there are plenty of posts in the WW2Dodge.com forums today. Certianly more activity on Dodges than there is here. Not that I want it that way... Steel Soldiers is obviously a better run forum, but sometimes you just got to go where the action...
Is there anyone who is a member over at WW2Dodge.com who would be willing to send a message to the board admins to help me get registered?
I've been wanting to join that forum for a couple months now, however I can find no way to register. I've tried to google the email for both "Bert" and...
I'm pretty new to the WC Dodge trucks, and I'm wondering if there is any de facto standard reference book for these trucks? Even if there's not, what's a good reference? I've already got several of the TM's, which are pretty good on how the truck works, but obviously don't tell much about the...
SO there's hope! :) Thanks Mark.
I've been looking through a ton of photos I found on the web, including some very excellent detailed photos made during a restoration, and I can't help but think the seats sit significantly higher in the WC-63 than in the command car. I know pictures can be...
Thanks for the information. ...I think. Oh well, I guess I could always customize it! What amazes me is that I fit my Land Rover pretty well, yet I've always percieved it to be a significantly smaller vehicle, and always thinking the Dodges likely to be much more roomy.
I drove an M37 last...
I have always admired the WWII Dodge Trucks, and I have recently become interested in restoring one. However, I also recently sat in a WC-56 Command Car for the first time, and realized that it would be virtually impossible for me to drive, as my 6'3" body just doesn't fit, particularly with the...
I'm confused too. I thought you were trying to pull the axle shafts, but now it looks like you are tearing down other stuff? Why are you trying to remove the king pins?
Just to recap basic steps to remove the axle shafts:
1. Remove brake drum, outer axle flanges (or locking hubs). You've...
I concur with what's already been said regarding FM broadcast reception on military antennas. It's probably worth pointing out that if you use a MX6707/AS-1729, it would probably be worth setting it to the highest frequency band, which butts right up against the FM broadcast band, and might work...
This is too much difference! Especially after you add in the base length too. Probably work ok for occasional short range use, but that's all. If you use an older CB, it may damage the final output transistors over time. This puts the antenna resonant near 25 MHz, not 27 MHz.
I would use the...
