Howard,
There are two bus connections, 12 and 24 volt, that live inside the main power panel (fuses and breakers), low down in the center of the dash. The new front driving lights are run from there, up to a switch and fuse on the dash. They are wicked bright and seem rugged enough for the...
Been fixing a couple of slow leaks on 16:00's recently, and in each case there was a badly positioned O ring issue. As noted by others above, pull apart the wheels, clean up O ring surfaces and carefully install a fresh ring of the correct diameter. Different wheel types require the 1/4, 3/8, or...
More Little Stuff...
The front lighting needed a boost and pictures from Afghanistan provided the pattern. Trillant lighting from an SS listing, in 24 volts, seemed like the ticket.
The doors were switched out, providing new glass and winders along with the mirror brackets.

Got in a few more updates on the Freightliner M916A1, thanks to the NOS cab and nose (mini glider kit) from SS member Plane Fast.
He was able to deliver it to TNJ Murray in Delaware so the ride back to VT was not bad. These were sold by GL over the last 1-2 years and this one I got was for a...
Top of the fuel/water separator filter housing has a manual pump- you can usually tell when you are done when the pump action gets tougher. Be sure you have filled up any replacement fuel filters before installing.
Lots of hours in the model- he started with a OTR sleeper cab kit and then cut away parts, added lots of scratch built military features, and then tried to keep up with all the changes I was making to the truck. The work is not for the faint hearted!
Live or Memorex??
****, you caught me.
I have a good friend in MD that makes models of the trucks we work on here in VT. Great for trying out paint schemes and accessories. His pictures look so realistic I was doing a double take at first look- didn't remember hauling that load. Will post a couple of his work...
Awesome pictures and concept. Am wondering if there is a photo of the steel plate you mentioned put onto the 5th wheel. Interested to see how it is attached and whether it is designed to be easily removable. Am still looing into the ballast box concept for better bobtailed traction.
Thanks guys, the Plymouth was the smallest of the Chrysler line and yet the rear seat allows you to stretch out your legs. Driving in it is a real time warp, with a neat view over the hood. Very smooth ride, and the combination of its age and the military markings/ look get a great response from...

The shake down drive discovered the usual glitches and was eventually able to get to both military and antique shows over the summer. Added a roof rack to complete the picture, along with some interesting accessories to tow behind. Just this fall have replaced the original...

The inside fabric work is very demanding- was able to draft my better half to apply her considerable patterning and sewing talents to the seat, panels, and floor. That resulted in a good factory look for the interior.
Setting the body on the frame gives a chance to finally...
Found a 1941 Plymouth 4 door years ago and put in the back of the barn to "age". Always wanted a staff car, and finally took a break from the big truck projects to figure out how to do the job. Took about 2 years to get it done but was great fun to bring it to an antique car show this past...
Excellent analysis! I'm always concerned when I hear about how valuable an old NOS or distant past rebuilt gas engine is now- one that was test run back in the day and then put away. They all need to come apart and get the bearing check noted above.
The Continental 6602 is a wonderful motor...
Great Show as always. Lots of friends, trucks and fleas. The NH gang really knows how to make people welcome.
Couple of shots of 5 ton and 916A1 on the way- 300 miles+ R/T.
John
Good advice given. The rod knocks are a little higher pitch than the duller, heavier, slower main bearing kind. The cranking over with ignition off suggests that getting some oil pumped in there is enough make for a quiet start. These can be nursed along but with a fire truck application, and its...
Here you go, the roller guides are the fairleads from the 5 ton front winch- have used two of them on the XM974 and now one on the M172A1. They are the answer for winching on a dead vehicle and being able to keep the line off the deck, and out of the 5th wheel position. Also keeps from needing...
Been lots of great discussion about prime movers and trailers needed in moving heavier rigs. Loading itself is quite the adventure and the end result needs to be safe but also "Look Good" out on the road. Some shots from last weekend at the Vermont show.
Started here with a light Stuart -...
