You have it right- rest of the system is 12 volt (except for the marker lights). Handy accessory is the solar panel kit with the dual 12/24 power terminals available on the site. Installed one inside cab and have lots of feeds available.
Been running M916A1 this summer to shows with 74,000 GCW...
A friend is running a M915A1 set up like yours, but with a little shorter bed (from a duce?) and thus not so much rear overhang. He is pulling a tag-a-long on the pintle with great success and can add plently of front load weight to the trailer as JH1 suggests. He pulls a 32k MV on the trailer...
Followup on the Freightliner key question. A look through the -24p manual gave part numbers for the ignition and door locks that both ended in H680. Freightliner dealer ran the VIN and also came up with their code number of H680 for the key. Short story- key cut- turns both locks smooth as silk...
There is also a slick military kit that might still be out there at the old time dealers. It connected to the trailer brake air line at the rear of any 2 1/2 thru 10 ton truck that was equipped with air over or straight air. The unit consisted of a sealed air operated diaphragm that varied...
Boy do I know those ramps- keeps you busy always getting three other guys to help with the lift. Will be on the lower M172A1 now, needed it to get the 3 1/2" kingpin for the M916A1. The overwidth is the penalty but the lower ramp angle
and the extra deck wiggle room more that offsets. Looking...
Ahh, that's what I hoped to hear- thanks much! I'll try a dealer and see if they included the military contracts in their listing- now about the door locks.......
Yup, it's an M29 weasel- from back in the day of the imports from Norway- a true all season MV.
The M52 has pulled this kind of load in the hill country here with hubs, more compression on the Continental 6602, 5th OD and lots of split shifting of the xfer case.
Thanks for the suggestion, also maybe Freightliner has keys based on VIN- I'll give them a try first.
Recently got this M172A1 with the reversable king pin to carry the loads behind the 916A1-- the M52 gas job moving it has hauled 63k gross with a flat bed for years and finally gets a break!
So the key I got with this wonderful Freightliner M916A1 does not encourage you to want to ever turn it off. Lots of jiggling and #%$@* to get it to turn the switch and clearly is only close to what is needed. Before taking the cylinder out for cutting one to match I remembered that all the...
Need Deeper Snow
M52 gas job all chained up for the winter, after bringing a M172A1 up the icey hill to home. The snow also provided a good test for the interaxle differential on the M916A1. You can get only one rear axle spinning (both wheels with the posi) then stop, engage the diff. lock and...
Actually, back in the day, Memphis Equipment had available a manual control to correct the problems with the early non-air assisted sprag units. They would not engage the front axle drive until you were slipping the rears a little and thus about to be stuck. It was called the REB sure shift and...
Hi All,
New to SS but not to the MV world. Very impressed with the knowledge base and the insightful comments found here and hope to contribute in the future.
Could use a some information- I'm planning to give a little rest now and then to my hard working 5 ton tractor, an M52 gasser (pix...
