IIRC is If I Recall Correctly.
Bring a small inspection mirror and a borescope, if you have access to one.
There is probably a fitting or plug in the end of the oil gallery system.
I'd see if there's an inspection plate or something on the end that is leaking. A borescope might be useful. I'd ID the leak before I started pulling the gen head. I think the oil pressure gauge is plumbed into the flywheel end but I'm not sure.
Look for a MEP-026. You could use it to charge your 600 pound ballast. I have one that is a basket case I'd let you have really cheap. Ideally, find a 016D (Diesel) with a bad gen head and use the Yanmar to power a 026. Then get a 55 gallon drum of Diesel and you could rule the airwaves for...
I assume you hold the switch in the start position for 15 seconds or so after it starts running. On some gens this is mandatory so the safety switches don't shut them down. If it is shutting down 20 seconds after you turn the switch from start to run and stays running as long as you hold the...
What size breaker is the A/C on now?
Also, some modern thermostats will delay the starting of the blower motor until the compressor has started. I think older units just start everything at once. Our thermostat will let the blower run for a short time after the compressor shuts down, too.
Usually they get DRMOd for a reason. It could be something simple or it could be a thrown rod. The only sets I've gotten that didn't have something minor wrong with them were taken from situations where the equipment the sets were partnered with were bad, like a 701A that was paired with...
I believe the SX460 is superior to the original MEP VRs and can be used on 1800 RPM and 3600 RPM gens. They seem to be $39 shipped on ebay right now.
And, to clarify, my Kubota has a SE350 VR on the Marathon gen head. It differs from the SX460 in that it only does 190-240 VAC. The Kubota is...
Here's a video of the 016E running with the 460.
You can see two wires from the output, two wires feeding the field, and two wires shorted together (with the little blue wire nut) that go to the fine adjustment potentiometer. I gutted the box. The adjust pot and a Hardy Diesel meter...
I haven't used the gen with the 460 on it. I just did testing. However, my Kubota gen has a similar reg on it and I trust it 100%. They simply use output power to feed DC to the field. You get 1% regulation and under speed (Frequency) shutdown, which is good for running computers and things...
If your 30kW was about 1/2 the size then you probably wouldn't have gotten such a good deal.
I defer to Jim on 018s for sure. I've seen his stuff in person and it is probably cleaner than when it was originally delivered to the government.
That's apples/oranges. A portable 10 (13?) kW gen has some advantages over a 30kW tank.
$1050 for 30kW of power is a great deal if you can transport the 005.
Sometimes having something under 1500lbs is good, too.
