    Temporary tags in different states

Papercu; NH DMV mentions MA doesn’t honor temp plates because there are so many people who venture South into MA from NH that they are, in effect, doing a kindness by pointing out that MA will not honor the plates. Sadly, if the intent of the law was to make certain that people had insurance...

    Temporary tags in different states

It is a silly law; the only difference I can think of between the 'real' and the 'temp' plates is to get the real plates you've got to pay the fees and taxes to the town and state to register it, and start the process of getting the title if the vehicle requires it (due to year, 3 axles, etc)...

    Temporary tags in different states

NOT true - at least in the case of MA; NH issues temp plates, and you are specifically told that MA does not accept them as an indication of registration. If you drive in MA with an NH temp 'paper' 20-day plate, you are considered 'unregistered', and it will be towed away while they write you...

Ham Radio Operators / Steel Soldiers

We should start a local, weekly net on 51.00 NFM to exercise some of this gear. I've got a good clear shot for VHF and above from home down your way.

Got MEP 003a up and running

Remember, your charging system is only good for something on the order of 6A maximum output, so that's going to take some time to charge the system. Think how long it takes to charge a battery (depending on the state of discharge, of course) on the bench with a 6A battery charger; expect like...

Truck Show Barrington, NH Aug 22,2010

Shouldn't have any trouble with your M54A2 at the show; I've seen everything from just enought parts to sort of know what it was on a trailer, to restorations better than the factory would have produced - and everything in between, at that show. Most important requirement is to have fun...

Truck Show Barrington, NH Aug 22,2010

At the office until 17:00 on a Sunday; that's no fun at all. I don't really know how late they run, as I've always been on my way home by mid-afternoon.

Truck Show Barrington, NH Aug 22,2010

If it were me, I'd aim for arrival around 10:00 AM. I'm currently planning on arriving at about that time. I hope this year is as good as last year. There were around 300 trucks there last year, at least according to what I heard. Given how long it took to walk around and look at everything...

Truck Show Barrington, NH Aug 22,2010

Yes, there are typically several MVs at this show - I'd say a dozen or so. If you like older trucks, this is a nice show to attend. A good assortment of almost anything and everything in terms of trucks will be found there. Hope to see you there on the 22nd!

Big thanks to Carl_in_NH and the tale of three Generators

Thanks for the kind words; always happy to help if I can. On the defective throttle, I suspect the cable is shot where the lock / screw adjustment piece is. For about two years, I've seen someone at some of the tractor and antique engine shows that had a few of these cables new in his...

    My first MEP-003 start

They all come with no button; the button must be selected from the standard sizes to time the pump correctly to your engine. Again, the TM has all the data on how you do this - and the AMBAC web site has even more detailed information on the pump and timing it to the engine. The price on the...

    My first MEP-003 start

Careful of a long muffler hanging off the unit; people have reported cracks in the manifold when hanging stuff off there. If you want a muffler, it's best to mount it solidly somewhere, and use a piece of flex between the generator output and the muffler. No, it's not possible for it to run if...

    My first MEP-003 start

PC on the flywheel only indicates port closing on #1 - you have to remove the rocker cover to make certain it's the proper part of the cycle; remember, there's two turns of the crank for one turn of the cam . You might have timed your pump initially to the wrong phase of the crank. This...

    Weare NH Rally July 29-31

Thanks for posting the photos, Warren. It was nice to meet up with you and a number of other folks at the rally. I hope to be able to spend more time at the rally next year - and will plan on camping overnight either Friday or Saturday. A really good turnout of vehicles this year, to be sure.

    MEP-003 & External Fuel Tank

I use a drop hose and let my MEP003A automatically refill the day tank using the AUX fuel pump from either the deuce tank or my home heating oil source. Now that you've got the fuel situation taken care of, don't forget about a store of engine oil and filters; stock-up before you get a major...

    runing deuce on inside tires

If I understand correctly, you're planning on removing 4 tires from the rear axels so you can load the truck to the 10,000 pound maximum weight for on-road operation - plus the weight of the four tires and wheels you removed (or roughly 800 pounds) as additional payload. Let's think about...

    Weare NH Rally July 29-31

I don't believe there's any admission cost. Tomorrow you'll be parking away from the field (only MVs, registered campers, and other people that need access to the rally field will be driving in, if I recall correctly) - out in front at the school building, and there will be a shuttle that will...

    MEP-002A and 003A Fuel consumption?

Trouble is, you'll need two of them - one for the fuel going to the IP, and one for the return line, and then calculate the fuel consumed by subtraction. Much simpler on a gasoline powered genset where there's no return line to worry about.
