Seatbelt Laws for a Deuce –CA

I'm just thinking of the liability of hauling people in the back. Your insurance company likely isn't going to cover that type of operation (I know mine expressly forbids it), and if someone gets hurt they are going to sue you. A parade might be a special exception - but generally hauling...

Paint. What color and where to get it?

I used a little less than three gallons of 24087 - that's a fairly dark OD that was used back in the 70's. I bought my Gillspie paint from the folks at Rapco. Also bought a bunch of the same stuff in spray cans from them for touch-ups; that beats having to clean up the HVLP spray gun for minor...

MEP-003A wire size and governor setting questions?

I think Speddmon dropped a word; your batteries are NOT fully charged. You've been cranking and cranking and running those batteries down, and the charging system in the genset can only output 6 amps. This could take you a fairly long run time to restore complete charge and get the voltage back...

    MEP017A runs!

I'll see if I can find a link on how to modify this - but please don't do it without the help of someone who understands electricity; you could be killed or kill someone else if you don't have a very good understanding of what you're doing. Learn from someone locally - not from Internet wisdom...

Transfer Switch for MEP-003A Finally Installed

Nicely done. Next time you're out this way you can help me install mine :-)

    MEP017A runs!

An unmodified 017A does not support direct connection to a house panel - it's a 240V, 2-wire system; what you need is a 240V, 3-wire system to have the neutral connection. You need to modify the internal generator head connections to bring out a neutral connection - and then not touch the...

    M35 prepping for paint

Just make certain you've got enough paint on hand; mine took just under 3 gallons, and I still have inside the cab and the dash to do. There's a lot of surface area.

    MEP-003A Up and Running

You'll be pleased with that genset. They are worth the trouble.

    MEP 3 60hz /40hz

Not exactly; higher frequency means reduced weight of magnetics in transformers and inductors. In other words, magnetics designed to operate at a higher frequency can be smaller in size and weight. That's a big plus for aircraft and other places where weight and size is an issue.

    Deuce antenna mount

Looks like it could be tied backwards if the headache rack were removed. I'm going to run into the same problem on my M35-A2C. The drop-side doesn't make antenna mounting for HF comms any easier.

Happiness is a few gallons of 24087

I wish that was my shop - but it's not. It's been too rainy here to try and paint outside, so it's in a friend's auto body shop for the spray. Yeah, I know - that's cheating - but it's done. I've got no building large enough to drive the M35 inside. That's on the list, however. Pole barn on a...

Happiness is a few gallons of 24087

Thanks for the comments, folks. Not sure if the bumper is A3 or not; it does have the hole in it, and it was on the truck when it was surplused out. My other '71 (WO/W) has a bumper without the hole. The April / May 2010 Supply Line cover photo shows a couple M35A2's in what I think is the...

Happiness is a few gallons of 24087

Gillispie 24087, it's a semi-gloss. It looks a little brownish under the lights in the shop; it's a good deep OD in sunlight.

Happiness is a few gallons of 24087

Just wrapping up paint on the deuce; going from three various shades of three-color camouflage to solid 24087. No markings yet, will have to order some of the oil board stencils. Couldn’t take any pictures that show the entire truck today – shop was too crowded, and it’s raining outside. I’ll...

    MEP017A runs!

Plugs and plug wires you're not going to find at NAPA; they are the aircraft type - designed for a completly shielded system. I bought new plugs at Saturn - they were less than $10 each. I can dig up the number for them - but if you ask for the plugs and filter for the 2A042 the folks at Saturn...

    MEP017A - Alternative to MEP002A

You want the 2A042 engine parts (2 cyl, air cooled, 42 cid) from the Saturn site. When I bought a spare carb I think it was $39.

    Care and feeding of mep003

Should run when the genset is running; it's powered off the 24V control system. Could be a bad contact on a relay, or a bum connection somewhere in the control cubicle. Change your oil and filters - that will go a long way to keeping it going. There's some PM in the TM that you can do - pretty...

    First time bidding on GL

Let me know if you need any help - I've brought one 017A back to life. Good, solid genset - not the best for fuel consumption, and 3600 RPM, but rock-solid 1968 performance :-)
