Mine starts as you described in the 2nd paragraph. Typical diesel cold start in my opinion. The multifuel starts easier.

Mine does it from time to time. In my case it is the air assist system. I have to put some air tool oil in it. Turn off the air assist steering valve on the firewall and see it that helps. Ya never know.
