Well..if all goes as planned my rig will have an allison..so the 1st to 2nd full throttle shift will most likely be the short side axle shaft killer.
From what i can tell there is no mechanical coupling between the gear cluster and the shaft save for the key..so the power is being sent through...
Well the one that came out sure isnt hard..a couple of passes with a file and there was no doubt. Im kinda on the fence with the hard..i can see the consequences both ways and it aint good either way.
The gat dang drydock is sucking all my time..another 13 hours in the frozen wind tunnel...
Ill have a look thanks..the key that came out wasnt hardened..probably for a reason i think..it was beat but the shaft and keyway were mint..so it will be the "fuse" . It doesnt make sense to me that they would use a key instead of a spline there. Ill have to go over the power flow again and...

Ok..ive been looking for a new woodruf key as the one that came out is definately hash. Closest i can find so far wasnt very close..ill do some more digging this week and hopefuy be able to assemble the shafting.
Then itll be on to modifying the shift fork and shaft...

Well after logging 350 hours on the job this month i finally mamaged a day off..so i had a go at tuning up the case for better fitment. I'll be out shopping for a new woodruf key for the idler shaft tomorrow as this one is kinda baked. Hopefully ill only have to put this...
These 302's are governed are they not? Could there be an issue there? Im not too familliar with them other than they are vaccuum operated/related..torn diaphram or broken spring allowing it to close early? I usually disconnect them or remove all together as i can drive and watch a tach at the...
X2 on the hoarding..i would check points for gap, buning and oxidation. New condenser. Then go at the harder stuff. While youre at it with the ignition, clean and grease your engine to chassis grounds. Its good PM.

Fitment
Ok i got the intermediate shaft 95% of the way in but as you can see in the pic of the inside the cut needs to be at least another 1/8"-3/16" wider..that will give the clearance needed at the chamfer radius and a little more wiggle room at the side of the gear. To sum up cut 1/8"-3/16"...
Modifying the case
Ok so here is the point of no return..modifying the case for the new gear.
The new gear sits about 3/4" to the right(rear) of the case when youre looking into the pto opening so some material has to be removed from the case to make it all happen.

I just installed one of these in my 89 f450 diesel .. facet posiflow 60303..it works great. A small solid state pump good for diesel or gas and is self priming to 12'. This one makes 5-7 psi so may be on the high side but they have gas models that are in the 3-4 psi range. I chose this one...
About 120' of 14ga..thats great info..i passed on a mil spec electrical kit on e-pay a little while back it was 500 pieces or so ..all the connectors and rubber bits..kicking myself now. I usually make scratch harnesses as my stuff is modified but beware of the 'farm store supply" outlet wire...
