Advice from one who is less than an expert: Charging batteries from a converter won't work because lead-acid batteries need 14.7 volts to charge.
An opinion from the same: Something like fire equipment should be over-designed if anything. All the business of uneven charging, converters...
B-32. I have 2 government padlocks on a chain to lock the steering wheel, but no keys. What is your bumper number? What year is your truck? Aren't the markings from your truck 39th Inf. Bde.?
I have been doing some research on the 39th Inf. Bde. You will probably be interested to know that...
Those shotup trucks in Tucson, AZ were probably used for target practice in training activities. Trucks, or any equipment in general, that was not serviceable was not returned to the US. They were collected in scrap yards and who knows what happened after that.
In Viet Nam damaged Huey...
I'm waiting on EUCs for 3 M105s at Ft. Carson, CO. When the dust settles, I may have some leftovers and I will keep you in mind.
Something I could use, if it didn't cost too much to freight is a pintle eye (see photo). I bought this trailer with the idea that we would change the hubs to...
I've been going over my M109A3 deuce looking for any papers that might tell me something about it's history. The first thing I noticed is a small tag rivited to the panel between the driver's door and the seat. Can anyone tell me what it means?
It looks like my truck is a 2 war veteran...
Hey, thanks. Between this thread and a link in it, I got some questions answered. I'm a newby with an M109 (deuce with a box) and I plan to fix it up for highway and trail. I figure if 4x4 is good, 6x6 is half again better.
The next thing that I'm curious about, and maybe there's a thread...
I would like to know what most people think of NDT tires for general use. In ’73 I was in a reserve engineer battalion. On a drill weekend during the winter we took our 5 tons with flatbeds up in the mountains carrying equipment to do a civic project. Coming back down, we had a lot of...
billymac61, will do as soon as I find the crankcase breather. I have LOTS to learn and I think this web site has a lot to teach me. I think that the leak started in the last 100 or so miles, so a plugged breather could explain it.
I said that about my Bronco a couple of years ago and I think...
RE:
Great! I think what I will do is change the oil and filters (good to do no matter what), bypass the FDC because I don't intend to run anything but diesel, and steam clean the whole thing. The clutch isn't bad enough to sweat, unless it gets worse. The only thing is by next summer I want...
RE:
The time that we checked it and it was high might have been 10 minutes after it was shut off and when we checked it today it was right after it was shut off. That might explain it. That would mean that it really is 2 qt. low and I should ignore the high reading. Thanks.
About the plug...
My ’66 Kaiser Jeep deuce is safely in storage and waiting on papers. I have a problem with engine oil that I need to get sorted out. In general I am real happy with my purchase, even if this issue gets deep.
Before I go into the oil problem, just a quick status report. The missing blackout...
RE: Ft. Riley Shop Vans
rumplecat,
I saw that row of vans; they were pretty scruffy looking. They are in the DRMO yard, not GL. Mine even cranked on its own battery power!! Because I had to grind down the pintle hook to make it fit the eye on the bar I was towing my Bronco with, I didn't...
Some real bargains went out of Pineville, LA yesterday; deuces for under $1000, some for under $500! My wife put a limit on my spending and I put it all into trailers at Ft. Carson, CO, but I was watching Pineville, LA until about 2 hours before the auction closed.
I stand corrected on that...
I also aquired some M105 trailers from Ft. Carson, CO, 3 of them. One has no pintle eye, the other 2 are complete, canvas and all. I got my deuce van home with only minor troubles, but may not have it legal by the time I need to haul them away. It's only 90 mi., so I will find a solution...
I can show you the Bronco in the pictures above on Google Earth; go to 39 - 55 - 49.09 N by 104 - 57 - 47.33W. That picture was taken about 2001 or 2002.
An interesting tid bit is a paper in a plastic envelope taped to the inside door of the hut. My interpretation is that this is customs declaration sheet for its return trip from Iraq.
ARMYMAN30YearsPlus, you posted a picture of trucks following Desert Storm; could this one have been one of them?
Ft. Riley to Denver
I am going to take up the problems with the truck on some other forums. I think that cranetruck in the posting just above hit the problem on the head with the suggestion that I checkout the fuel density compensator. That would explain the extra engine oil as well as the...
An update on the clutch, it seems to be fine. I took it for a short drive after it had time to cool off and no slippage. I checked the oil again and it seems to be about 2 qt. over filled. The transmission was in the same place as it was at the start, 1/8 inch below the inspection port. I am...
