When I was truck hunting, I considered driving down to NJ to look at a former Marine Corp M36A2 painted tan. I figured it was a Marine deuce since it had the big "paper clips" welded to the front bumper. The M36s are big deuces, having a 17-foot bed with one dropside and a support bearing for...
For what it's worth, my truck has had the same vinyl tops on it for at least the past 10 years and has always sat outside, mostly next to a barn well away from trees. As its new owner I started putting a tarp over the cab for winter storage. That said, the insulated cab top is in better shape...
Do the air conditioners have any electrical data on them? Volts and amps are going to be the main numbers to know, and it seems that the units are 3-phase.
I used the brush-on Permatex rust treatment on the first rim I did, only to find out after taking the rim apart while troubleshooting a leak, the Krylon paint I was using was flaking off along with the rust treatment coating underneath. It seems that this is too heavy duty of an application for...
Is that bead rusted to the rim? o_O Since this is the spare, I think I can understand that if it was in the regular spare tire position, with water collecting on the rim and probably soaking its way into the rim-bead interface.
But this is an M35A2 involved - I don't think a 14.5R20 will fit...
I thought I saw a bead lock insert in there, but I didn't want to push it since my eyes aren't on location :p
When I made my first cut in the sidewall, I cut a square in line with the turret valve so I could remove the nut and remove the turret valve, and work the tire off. That worked for the...
@ldmack3 thank you for posting those pictures, I see what you're talking about now. Although I'm a little perplexed about something:
What's that part inside the tire that I circled? Is that just the inside of the tire I'm looking at?
You don't need a bead lock insert to run the 395s on the A3 rims, but they sure help with seating the tire bead when putting the rim together! With the insert, the bead is spread apart far enough that you don't have to go into the trick bag to try and get the tire bead seated since tightening...
I hope that's not because something broke
Regardless how long the truck sits, I wouldn't expect it to make a sound like that when backing up - sounds like a big problem! I hope you get it figured out soon!
That can be a tough call. On one hand, if the others aren't leaking, I'd be tempted to leave them be until they need a tire replacement. On the other hand, if they're that corroded, it might be a good idea to clean the rims up and paint them. I had to do all of mine anyway because they were...
Holy cow that's a lot of rust! Did your truck swim in the ocean or something? I'd brush off as much of that rust as possible, paint it as you planned, and try reassembly.
The sealing surface on the clamp ring doesn't look terrible. How does the seal channel on the rim look? Wire brushing and...
I'm curious - do you have any drawings of this turret support? I haven't been around enough HMMWVs to know what they look like or how big they are.
One thought I had was finding a 3D print shop with a big enough metal 3D printer to just make one - probably wouldn't require a minimum run...
What's the range of years that sticker would've been valid? As someone mentioned, that Col. is long gone, and I'm thinking there'd be someone else listed on there at a later time.
Doesn't hurt to try. That and e-mail. Worst that can happen is that they don't respond after a week or two or say no.
Thanks for the explanation! Today I learned something new :)
