    Hood Not Closing Properly

If a cab mount goes away the clearance under the hood will go away.

    Please don’t say head gasket…

New style gaskets will fix issues with the multi piece gaskets. IF you need to take it apart, as soon as you disassemble it, you will see the issue with the original design. No need to re torque after replacement with new gaskets.

    Please don’t say head gasket…

It is a 40's-50's era engine. It was actually used in Oliver tractors. IF you were to twin turbo it, put a pump on it that delivered 3 times the fuel the stocker does, it might be something to consider. That is done in pulling tractors. The bottom end wouldn't survive. The turbo was added to the...

    Please don’t say head gasket…

    1 x 1/2 x 2 1/2 long with an old socket I had lying around.

    Please don’t say head gasket…

Do you drive the truck and not just start and idle it? Those are old style gaskets, when they start to leak the leakage will start oozing out of the tabs under the manifold. De grease it and drive it. Looks like it is just slobbering out the ports. Pop testing injectors is un necessary unless it...

    Original, Spicy or Extra Crispy?

I voted mixed bucket. My turd looked as it did when I got it, but did upgrades to make it work better. I plan to do the same on the next one I get. If I am working on something at the Museum, I try and keep it as original as possible, even going as far as evap-o-rusting fasteners, washers, etc...

M813 engine oil in brake air tanks

Cummins changed from 6 digit S/N to 8 digit somewhere in 70/71 years IIRC

M813 engine oil in brake air tanks

Wow, it truly is early! The plastic washer lookin' thing is the oil slinger. If it is not installed, you will have a leak at the front. 181236 is the ORIGINAL p/n for the slinger, 124239 a bit newer and 3200287 is an even newer number.

M813 engine oil in brake air tanks

The ESN is a very old one, wonder if it was a replacement at sometime in it's life. I can share the manual, but, I think I will scan this one and put it in the TM section along side the 900 series manual I put there a few years back. PM me your phone number and I can take a picture of the pages...

M813 engine oil in brake air tanks

The ORIGINAL part number for the gasket is 156089. I just called an ex-co worker that is still at Cummins. That part is obsolete from Cummins. You might try 3069101, the drain location and bolt pattern should be the same, but IIRC, the shape of the casting is different. A quick search on the...

M813 engine oil in brake air tanks

That is an old set up. What year is your truck? The parts book actually shows the set up you have, AR-51299 as opposed to AR-13134. There is a note that AR-13134 is used after ESN 10448850. I have not seen that set up in over 30 years. You will not be able to install the newer style in place of...

    M923A2 leaking coolant into engine!?!?

I remembered another thing. EASY fix. If, at sometime in the life of your truck, it was filled with plain 'ol water, well that caused rust, cavitation, etc. The soft plugs can be damaged when just water is used. When you drain the water and install coolant, the damage should stop, or be slowed...

    M923A2 leaking coolant into engine!?!?

I forgot, one more place, between the block and liner, this is a midstop o-ring or heavily cavitated liner/block. Or overheated

    M923A2 leaking coolant into engine!?!?

OK, so now you know it is from the engine. If there is no oil in the coolant, the oil pressure is greater than coolant pressure, it will be the air compressor, aftercooler, liner, head, block or head gasket. If it were me, i'd drop the pan and pressurize it. Air compressor will be from the...

And I Thought Their Cars Were Ugly...

That's the one! I can say, from first hand experience, they are a very complicated vehicle. Gimmie a deuce or 5t any day. Easy to work on. The War Pig was cool though! The guy that owned it is just up the road from me. He used to have a Haflinger, a Vampire, a couple of Mogs, one was a rare...
