    Testing Glow Plugs

I bought a new Snap-On diesel compression gauge recently and finally had time to test the compression on Blazer B. This gauge requires the glow plug to be removed and a adapter to be installed to get the compression reading. Easy enough. Tests went well. While I had the glow plugs out I tested...

    Temp Sensor

The chart is the product of testing a new temperature sensor for the CUCV trucks. We measured the resistance of the actual sensor and plotted it to produce the graph. Karl

    Temp Sensor

I see what you mean. My interpretation: No resistance = Open Circuit. Zero to very low resistance = Proper circuit or short depending on what you are looking for. If someone tells me that a resistor has no resistance, I take it as "open". Karl

    Temp Sensor

Either the sensor is defective or the wiring is defective. If your sensor has no resistance, that is the same as an open circuit. Thus the wait light will come on in a properly operating GP system. I would test the sensor and the wiring separately to be sure that both are functioning...

    Temp Sensor

The wait light stays on due to the fact that the GP card is not seeing any resistance from the sensor. When you disconnected the sensor you have created an "open" circuit. Opens are high in resistance. The GP card is expecting to see a high resistance from a cold sensor and as the sensor...

Getting tired of the same ole thing..

David, with the quality work that you do, whatever you decide on will look great. Just make sure you supply us with lots of pictures. I vote for tan with the Brahma interior, looks like it would be a good match. Karl

    New guy from Oxford, PA

Welcome from Centre County. Your best bet is to read, read and then read some more about the Deuce. Just about everything there is to know about it is here. It may take awhile but it's worth the time invested to learn about your future purchase. Karl

    Voltmeter question

I agree with Warthog. Glow plugs draw a lot of current when cold. Mine was doing the same thing. Tightened up the alternator belts and the squeal was eliminated. Karl

best place to buy replacement glow plugs

I have had good success with the AC60G's from NAPA. Installed them in four trucks without issues. They were reasonably priced and available off the shelf when I needed them. The connector tab needs to be filed down some on them so that it will mate with the stock GM glow plug wiring connector...

    M1009 Help

Murdock, you should be commended for your fantastic ability to write with great clarity and proper English. It sure does make it easier for the others to answer your questions. I know people 2 and 3 times your age that wouldn't be able to communicate as well as you do. Keep up the good work...

Driving with a blown cyl head gasket?

Not as catastrophic as yours, but a similar demise. Seems to be a common point of failure for head gaskets on this type of engine. Karl

My Glow Plug System Dilemma....AntennaClimber this is for you...:)

Eric, I apologize for not being clear. I was referring to the afterglow in my answer, not relay chatter or fast cycles. I should have specified this. It all depends on the voltage that the GP card monitor is seeing to determine afterglow cycle rate if its needed. Some vehicles may indeed have...

My Glow Plug System Dilemma....AntennaClimber this is for you...:)

You have a good question. I have noticed the same situation with my three CUCV vehicles as well. Two have the resistor bypass and one was converted to 12 volts by the previous owner. When you modify the voltage source to the glow plugs (resistor bypass procedure) from the factory 24 volt...

    GP Module Theory of Operation

Just a couple of friendly hints when servicing the GP module (card). When removing the card from the plastic housing/connector: 1. Do not use metal needle nose pliers or other metal tools to remove or insert the card. This can possibly damage components on the card. 2. Ensure that the card is...

    knocking noise

I had the same issue that you are describing but on the passenger side. I finally discovered that the top bolt of the left front shock absorber was missing the metal spacer that the bolt goes thru. Installed a new spacer and the problem was solved. Karl

    glow plug temperature switch

GP Sensor Attached is a graph of the WT3000 sensor resistance vs temperature. As you can see, if the temperature increases, the resistance decreases. So if you disconnect the temp sensor, the resistance is high to the glow plug card. This will cause the GP card to "think" that it's cold...
