In addition to the one at Winslow's, there is another one (in much better shape) within thirty miles of Raleigh... :)
Photos of it are on my website (along with some other info on the type).

I didn't mention the lights or the rear prop leg since I have found them to have been changed/replaced/upgraded/swapped (whatever you want to call it) on so many of the trailers... Half of the M101's that I have purchased over the years had the newer composit lights with LED's in them (just the...
Yep, I've got a long post somewhere here that describes the differences between the M101 and the M101A1 that are in my backyard. There is another one that details my M101A2...
One easy to spot difference between a M101 and a M101A1 is that the earlier trailer had the "squeeze" type parking...
As someone who has three of these engines in the backyard (encased in a XM813, M817, and a M816), I appreciate the follow up on what happened to the NHC250... Hated to hear about it going down in the first place and I feel the pain of the expense.
Actually, the boss has informed me that I will be working on Friday/Saturday this week... :( I can make it up next weekend (have to work on shifting a Friday appointment but other than that, I know next weekend is ok...).
If you can get a few folks together, you know which trails we didn't...
Would have loved having you with us... We have a new trail that we want to run over on Doubletop Mountain that has a steep section (to get you to the ridge) that should remind you a bit of Dutch John... :) Of course, we have to do a lot of cutting on it between now and the rally.
I have...
I pulled one apart a few years ago and it was tough... As said, you've got to use lube... RIrvin's method and tools sound almost exactly like mine. :)
A two pin slave plug end off a chewed up cable with new cable (lots of cable) and gator clamps on the opposite end makes a nice setup for...
The fire department has had those two trucks for a couple of years, it has been amazing to see just how fast and how far they have declined since they picked them up... :(
We talked once about having a rally at my parent's place down there a few years ago, but in looking at the driveway at the...
In North Carolina, a M809 series truck requires that you have either a Class A or Class B license due to the weight of the truck. You DO NOT have to have a commercial license unless you are acting commecially, you can get a NON-Commercial Class A or B license. Same test, same cost, but no...
Looks good. I also am using a mattock that has the plastic bushing on the handle. Looks ok IMHO...
The specifications (from the 1950's) for these tools (it's the same rack as on a M37 so I figure that the tools should be the same..) show:
AXE: Single bit, 4 lb head weight, 4.750 inch...
It's better than nothing... :)
Seriously, I have used a lot of Rust-Oleum on my trucks. It is the same basic chemistry as the Gillespie that I shoot for a top coat. Although I do most of my work with the spray gun, I do use the cans for a lot of touch up work or for small stuff (both...
I have a webpage that describes the seat belt law as it applies in North Carolina... It's too much info to try to cut and paste into a posting here. In general, there is no rule that I could find for a cargo truck with troop seats in it, but there is a specific section of the general statutes...
Thanks to Mike for helping to organize this. As he says, we are just moving into the last century and have internet (but it is slow) and no cell phones (not enough residents to justify the tower (so they say).
Anyway, I will be working on some of the trials on Saturday (come by the Lodge...
Looks like you got yourself a nice example to work with/upon there. Congratulations!
According to the list on my website, the number for the thermostat (160F) is NAPA 55 or Stant S-97. If you want to go hotter with a 180F thermostat, use a NAPA 155.
BTW: the parts cross ref page is...
If you don't find a piece before the GA Rally, I'll send some down with one of the guys... I toss out about five tons of the stuff each month after we have tested it and the scrap yard will never miss a few pieces... :) We routinely test #3 to #18 bars...
Great to hear that some of you might be able to make it on July 4 to help out with trail maintenance... :) What Mike has not mentioned is that we have a very large fireworks show that night (starts at 9PM, so if you want to hang around and eat and watch the show (we shoot off 3, 4, and five...
You might want to post this on the www.ncmvpa.com website in order to reach those folks who are in the local area who may not be on this particular forum...
I'm interested.... Can't say if I'll actually show up or not as it all depends on when you have it, and if I have to work or have...
