Everything under the truck that is steel will rust from salt. Salt will also "rust" or oxidize the aluminum body. I refuse to drive mine in the winter on salted roads. Worse than the salt is the other stuff they put on the roads such as pre-treatment before the snow starts.
The steel under...
Did you install the radiator and shroud as an assembled unit? When I did mine I unbolted the power steering cooler and flipped it out of the way without disconnecting the lines. Then I removed the transmission lines on the passenger side and again flipped the cooler out of the way without...
Turns out not all failures are created equal. After taking the turret joystick apart and finding the loose sensor and "fixing it", I decided to buy another joystick. The rubber boot on the first is a little deformed from use or heat or something. I bought the second joystick in hopes of...
You obviously haven't price material lately have you? You couldn't buy the Aluminum or Steel for less than you can buy them ready to bolt on for on epay right now. And why do you keep suggesting people make stuff out of plywood? Do you want Plywood doors on your HMMWV?? If you do, you are...
They are not custom. There are also rear access doors not intended for personale but for cargo. Many options. Some people put hinges on the ones you have and just use them.
I'll guess by the serial number. Imo, I would only use the correct date to the best of my knowledge to avoid future legal issues. If you are off by a year that is a simple mistake, off by 15 years to circumvent proper registration not so much.
Just curious why you want to move away from the stock gauges? Is it a looks thing? Are they bad?
NOS stock gauges are pretty inexpensive and some are updated.
Here's mines ... just stock but replaced with new and work perfectly.
Played with the back lighting a little too
Thanks for the info. I think I can make it work one way or another. If you would like to see where I'm at with the joystick you can check out my project here https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/my-new-1992-m998-avenger.184818/post-2420108 This is where I dissect a joystick to see how it...
I would recommend you download some of the manuals https://www.imfmotorpool.com/HMMWV_M998_Manuals.html it's what I use all the time to find part numbers and almost everything else you need to know.
Recommend you start with TM 9-2320-280-24P-1 and TM 9-2320-280-24P-2 and any that start with TM...
I dug into the controller I bought on epay for $35 from Beltfed. It was advertised as "inop" and I had planned on needing to fix or modify it for my application so it was the right price for me. In working condition they seem to go for a lot. If you are in need of one of these I would...
Thanks, I'm not using it for a turret but I am using the joystick for rear steering and now that I have looked at it more I'm going to require more than the 3 wires in the cable. I'll probably end up changing out the connector for 5 or more wires. If they are hard to find it should go to...
Today I started working on the rear steering. As some of you might have seen there is someone making a rear steering cylinder with auto mechanical centering. I looked at that system closely before deciding I don't like the way it works. Basically it uses spring pressure and a bleed off hole...
Hi, I am trying to find the cable in the picture that attaches to the turret controller. The part number would be helpful or if you know of where I might find one that would be very helpful also. Thanks
In the link I posted above there is a PDF file attached. In the PDF file there is a list of Common Rim Sizes available in 8x6.5" bolt pattern. There is also a list of Brands and Model of wheel that match the rim sizes. In the lists it gives the offset in mm and the back spacing in inches...
Here's a post I did a few years ago but all the info is still good. The attached pdf gives a bunch of measurements and sizes. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/my-new-1992-m998-avenger.184818/post-2210080
Unrelated update on this Blizzardous evening here in the Northeast. This is a side project trailer I have been working on (on and off) for a couple years as time allows. I bought this fifth wheel camper trailer frame with hitch and everything with ambitions of making a car hauler trailer out...
Yes except it wouldn't be -12vdc it would be 0vdc or ground. In my picture above the battery on the left is what others are referring to the rear battery.
