    BFR's Cranetruck

It's probably due to be serviced again: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?5935-leaking-axle-seal-repair Look at that thread #. Woo.

    Just purchased my 2nd MV...M38A1

I think if I was going to do all that, I'd go ahead and go whole hog and do the steel brake lines as well. They're 60+ years old and reasonably cheap. No point in going this far and trying to reuse an ancient steel line and have it split. You can use a pressure bleeder to do the brakes in the...

    My M35a2c "Finally done".

That's a lot of work but it's really the only right way to do it. I have a lot of respect for that. A deuce to haul all your stuff to the rally and a Jeep as the "bomb around camp" runner - you can't do much better.

    mules and the Gator

That is a heck of a nice trailer. Aluminum trailers are the bomb. Is the Gator a new addition?

I think its a deuce bed

That is a deuce bed: 12' long and 5 stake pockets down the side. Looks really straight.

Another reason to measure before buying

My post, my keyboard, go pound sand No grass grows under HQ43. It gets used a lot. I don't own a regular pickup anymore, so if it's a mission that requires something more than a Honda Civic, 43 gets the call.

    Connecting battery banks

The 12V battery that is for the emergency trailer brakes. Mounted on the tongue of most trailers.

Another reason to measure before buying

Oh, you so funny. Eventually when I paint the truck (I'd say I'm about 80% done with the truck), I'll do a build thread, but since you've called me out (et tu Brutus!) I'll have to defend myself now. So, after owning a couple of these things, a few truths came to mind. All the ways you use...

Why don't the brake drums have jacking bolts?

Do you mean why aren't the drums a "slip on" design like modern vehicles where you can remove the drum or rotor easily in order to service the brakes without having to repack bearings?

Another reason to measure before buying

What do you not like about (other than the obvious: 5 gallons of explosive liquid 2' under you thaqt's in a prime location for being hit in a t-bone style accident)? I like the water cans on the flaps. A truck that holds 8 gallons of coolant and springs a leak-you're going to need more than a...

My current distributor cost for GY G177 11:00R20's is $680 each, without tubes and flaps.

    939a0 designation debate

We should stop calling CCKW's CCKW and start calling them DUKWA0's. I mean, that sounds cooler and that's really the point of all this: People want to say all that alphabet soup because they think it sounds cooler. Calling your truck an A0 is the army truck equivalent of...

How do you know the boots on your truck are 25+ years old? Do they have a date code on them?

    939a0 designation debate

M939 series, which includes vehicles like your M923 and others like M925, M927, M936, etc. are like this-I'll use your M923: M923: dualled 11:00s, NHC250. M923A1: super single tires, NHC250 M923A2: super single tires, 8.3 turbo engine. Of course there are smaller difference between the...

    New GL policy warning

The majority of my industrial clients require hardhats, safety glasses, steel toe boots and reflective vests when on their property, even when engaged in office-type work (I do efficiency consulting). A lot of it is "safety theatre"-and it is an annoyance, but owning a pair of steel toe boots...

    939a0 designation debate

It's no hair off my back what someone calls their vehicle, but I do find it annoying. First off: Have you ever heard someone refer to an M38 as an M38A0? Of course not. You have an M38 or you have an M38A1. That's it. Same thing goes for the trucks-there are M44, M44A1 and M44A2 models...

Green fever struck, got another MV & need rust repair advice

Several points: I don't think A3s are any rustier than A2s. I strongly suspect that it has more to do with where they were stationed and how they were used. It is true that A3s are built out of A2s but not entirely. I strongly believe the cabs were all new. The beds were all new...
