If something went wrong inside the winch, then it was more than likely the main ring gear. I had to replace mine because the previous owner put a steel bolt in for shear pin. The only place I could find one is Memphis equipment and its pricey.
Check for fuel in the oil. I had the same problem, good pressure when started but after it got warm, the pressure would drop to 3lbs. Finally found that the booster pump seal went bad and was leaking fuel into the crankcase. Hope this helps.
I have a Mep-004a that has 8500 hrs that runs great. It's amazing how durable these units are, I've had several store bought gas units that won't last 800 hrs before they need to be rebuilt.
What I did is found a M35a2 w/winch that was not running and took the winch off, sold the truck for the amount I paid for the entire truck. Basically got a free winch, but i had to wait almost 2 yrs before I found one.
I have used every kind of winch out there and I would have to say that I...
It sounds like you have already done your homework. The M35A2 is one of the toughest trucks I've ever seen and seems right for you. We use a 1968 M35A2C everyday for farming and we are tough on it, hauling equipment, hay, and pulling anything we need. The only major problem we've had is the...
Looks right to me. The caps protect the vent from dirt. I'm not sure what the second hole is for, but it would be some sort of vent tubing. I think they are usually plugged.
Do you know where the bearings are manufactured? I'll only purchase bearings made in USA if I can help it. Better quality and will last longer. I found some for $44 but they were made in China.
Try filling it up, there is a pick up tube on the fuel pump housing that is known to fail. If it cracks or splits above your fuel level it won't be able to suck up the diesel.
I think it has to do with little lubrication and high speeds. The bearings also have a shield on one side and they are on the input shaft facing opposite directions. Meaning that the open face of the bearings are facing each other and oil has to be forced in through small holes on the input...
I checked several different vendors, my father in law rebuilds tractors and had a supplier that he buys all his bearings from but all where very high. The input shaft bearings were the most expensive, the rest were some what reasonable.
Sorry to hear that, if you drain the fluid and find metal or ball bearings on the magnetic drain plug, you'll know for sure what the problem is. I just finished rebuilding mine and found that one of the bearings on the low gear synchro went bad. There a 4 bearings on the synchro and it seems...
Update: I took the plug out and found bearings. :( I'm in the process of taking the transfer case out and wondering if anyone has a good source for internal parts. I have a feeling that the synchro is shot.
Awesome guys, thank you. I'm going to drain the oil and see if anything is in it. I've tried driving it and shifting into low but it didn't work, same results.
I've never seen it before but if Memphis did the work, I would buy it (if the price is right). I live about an hour away from Memhis Equipment and everything I've seen come from there is top notch.
I would say that it is fuel related. The injectors might be clogged due to rust if it's been sitting for years. Did you break the lines open at the injectors, to make sure they are getting fuel? Most of the time its the injection pump not suppling fuel to the injectors.
It's still in the truck and can only take off the vent plate on the top and all I can see is the top of the shift fork. I'm trying to figure out if it's something that can be fixed easily with the transfer case in the truck. I'm really hoping that someone has experienced this and can lead me in...
Ok, so I guess no one else has had this problem. LOL! Does anyone have pictures of the transfer case internals that might give me some idea of what could be blocking it from going into low gear? The TM's do not give a clear picture of the inside. Thanks
I have a 1968 M35A2C with the air shift transfer case and can not get it to go into low gear. High and neutral shift fine but when I try to shift into low, it feels like somthing is blocking it. I tried rolling the truck in high and shifting the transfer case into low but it still would not...
