    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Here in CT no one will stop for anything. I found a guy lying in the road one day a few years ago, everyone was just driving around him. I used my car to block traffic so the poor guy wouldnt get ran over and people were honking and swearing at me out their windows because now I was in their way.

    Dan's M1081 Pick-up and Build

The 2 rear connectors have a habit of slipping back a bit and not making good contact. The unit is only grounded by being bolted into the dash panel which is grounded by being bolted to the dash which probably isnt grounded as good as it should be to begin with. I run a ground wire from the ecm...

    Newbie Payload Question

In theory its 2.5 tons off road 5 tons on road. The bed is pretty heavy if you remove that you can add the removed bed weight. One would think that the lighter the better for going offroad. The more weight the more fuel you will go thru. What do the unimog overland people do. Unimogs dont have...

The right side one locks in that controls the cab air shocks.

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like the slip joint area might be thicker on the green one.

M936A2 wrecker 90psi CTIS tire pressure modification

I think I have the wheel valves in limited quantity. The original ones may still work though. The controllers are not hard to find. I have the correct part number listed above in a pic. The transducer pressure sensors were the hard part. I kind of figured all this out backwards after researching...

M936A2 wrecker 90psi CTIS tire pressure modification

I have a good quantity of them coming in 2 weeks or so at a very reasonable price. Knock off a zero.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

70psi? I can hit 59 downhill with the wind blowing my way. Otherwise it's 57 with the stock gearing. The only way to get any more speed is to turn up the rpms, already set to 2600 I believe. Or swap high speed gears. I don't think it's healthy for the 3116 to rev higher than 2600 though.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

I keep a bag of hose clamps in each of my trucks. Haven't broken one on an lmtv yet though. Good to see it was an easy fix.

M936A2 wrecker 90psi CTIS tire pressure modification

A lot of the wrecker owners have discussed in the past trying to figure out if some special ecu does the 90psi.

M936A2 wrecker 90psi CTIS tire pressure modification

I don't know about other wrecker owners but I can't lift heavy weight without putting the side legs down to brace. Otherwise the rear tires give and the back of the truck comes down. There has been discussion previously about the wrecker having a higher highway pressure setting. I found all the...

    Tire Leakage

Tire air cannot leak out the hub connection. Spray all around front and back including around the tire stem. A new o ring does no good if there was corrosion inside. You have to sand and rust prime then help it with a little rtv when putting the new o ring in and the wheel back together. Dont...

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

Driveshaft shops can do custom work. Common for race cars or modded street cars. The lmtv is a different creature. Done wrong and you can have disasterous results. If the slip joint has slop I'm pretty sure it can be rebuilt and the shop can check and balance while they have it.

    Tire Leakage

Usually the wheel seal goes bad from moisture getting in over time and causing rust and corrosion inside. Air up the tire and spray windex or soapy water all around the rim and look for bubbles. A standard schrader valve will screw into the valve stem once you take off the ctis hose.

    M1078/M1079 for overland camper?

I have to believe that the original one can be rebuilt. Any used one is going to have some play. Making a whole new one sounds expensive.

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

I cranked up the fuel on mine it moves pretty well. When lifting anything heavy I have to put the side legs out the singles have too much give. I know someone with a m936 his duals are much steadier and have less give under load. It's a neat toy. I don't use it that much. In theory the super...

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

Those tires have a nasty habit of disintegrating sidewalls and blowing out. Sidewalls get weak and wavy. There are other threads discussing it. On a cargo truck I usually say dont run them on the steer axle. But the wrecker is real heavy. Most of those are older tires there will be a date code...

    My new M936A2 Wrecker

Nice truck. Get rid of those tires they are bad news especially on a heavy wrecker.
