    Air pressure

The CTIS pressure sw should close at 115 to tell the controller you have air, and open at around 89 to tell CTIS that the wet tank/air supply is exhausted. Is yours switch cycling with full/empty wet tank(yours may be shorted:)). Hard to say what issues 145 is causing, I am not aware of an...

    Air pressure

Exactly what Swamp Donkey said:) The CTIS pressure switch is looking for around 115-117 PSI to close so probably wont function with 110...

    Blown head gasket?

I am sorry you misunderstood me, The only place air would leak out are the cap and the fittings on the top back end of the exp tank and a foot or so of hose, as those are the only thing above the coolant level. And if the coolant level didn't drop under pressure, you are not loosing any...

    3116 head swap 3126, c7

The HEUI high pressure engine oil is pumped thru a gallery in the head to supply the injectors. The 3116 MUI engine does not use this so I would say the two heads are not interchangeable. Dont know if they changed the injector cup and fuel gallery design either, but they did reverse the flow...

    CTIS - Almost working

Pressurize it with shop air on the PCU input. the shot of inflate from the PCU sounds weird in y0ur video. If the protection valve on the wet tank isn't opening fully and choking your supply it might not pressurize properly thru the PCU and open everything fully with the timed shot of air it...

Need some help with a direction to go with charging system ?

Yes, the heavy gauge wire runs from battery negative, to shunt. Another heavy gauge cable goes from the other side of the shunt to starter negative and then the main chassis ground strap runs from there over to drivers frame rail.

    Blown head gasket?

I don't use pressure testers, I apply pressure using a regulator to that little hose port just below the radiator pressure cap. This way has the advantage of testing the cap in place sealed against its native surface. The radiator cap has two seals, one seals the outer lip, the other seals the...

    Blown head gasket?

Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you lost 3 quarts of coolant. if engine oil was making it into coolant I think it might be darker. But snowtracks suggestion of oil from the trans in there makes sense. take a sample, heat a piece of metal with a torch and put some drops on. If there is...

    Blown head gasket?

what does the coolant reservoir smell like when you pop the cap? take a good look in the fuel tank, whats in the bottom? what I am geting at is that head gaskets usually put combustion gasses in the coolant which are black and sooty/greasy. A leaking injector cup seal can allow fuel and...

    MTV grounding issue

There is no battery box ground, but like Suprman says it is probably a good idea to add one. While you are at it, it is probably a good idea to delete the shunt and run a cable direct from battery neg to starter neg. the shunt is only used by the STE and doesn't serve much purpose for us...

    Power steering fluid recommendations

AW 32 hydraulic oil is 10wt. Should be available at any farm store, tractor supply/retailer or hydraulic shop... I have even found it at rural walmarts...

    CTIS - Almost working

Sounds like you are not getting adequate supply to the manifold/PCU or you have a big leak. When the controller sees the wet tank pressure switch close(should be around 115PSI) it closes the control solenoid(seals the manifold/system) then it gives a shot of air with the inflate solenoid to...

Working on diagram of Cat 3116 common failure points

And back to the LMTV specific issues. Cat made a lot of these engines, with that same oil line, compressor and oil sensors. Don't hear about oil line failures And parts falling apart so much from the commercial users who put lots of miles on these engines. I am sure if they were prevalent we...

Working on diagram of Cat 3116 common failure points

Except I think most of the problems the LMTV have are unique to the engine config used in the LMTV... Yes, check the flywheel to tc flexplate bolts. The primary filter issues are probably not for failures, but for maintenance issues. Crud in the flapper check under the filter housing(fuel...

    Electrical question on 1997 m1083

Sounds like you may have another issue in the PDP. If you have no crank and the fuel solenoid not wanting to power up... did you get a chance to check power at the PDP test points with the switch on?

Working on diagram of Cat 3116 common failure points

Lot of check valves to suck back thru... I don’t see a return line causing an issue by itself without bad check valves in lift pump and primer pump/primary filter, unless it is pouring fuel on the ground when the engine is running:) it doesn't appear to return to a standpipe, only a port on...

    Electrical question on 1997 m1083

For cable insulation repair and weatherproof electrical connections I use self vulcanizing rubber tape. It is elastic and stretches and is stored in a roll with cellophane tape to keep it from fusing itself into one big rubber ball. You pre-tension it by stretching it to half its width and...

    Electrical question on 1997 m1083

It sounds like you have a bad connection(high resistance) that is causing a voltage drop as soon as current is pulled thru it. On the left side of the fusepanel/Power Dist Panel(PDP) there are 3 metal lugs labeled ground, 12V and 24V. These are the PDP input voltage test points. i know you...

What is the best method to clean out hydraulic lines on an FMTV?

Well when you start getting air out the other end, you know the system now has fresh fluid in it:)
