I went back to the orings I took off that were both in reasonable shape but have taken the triangle shape somewhat. I can't see any way a 1/4" o-ring would work without it holding the steel rims apart or squeezing excessively.
I'm going with the black Buna 70 #384 which is 15" ID x 15 3/8"...
I like the setup and it looks plenty stout with that many ribs. I don't think I would start over myself, but I would find a way to handle the weight better. Have you already trashed it (reused the metal)?
Do I see hinges on the side? If you were hinged on the front, with shocks on both...
Having done the search, I see there are multiple orings. I'm opening this thread in hopes of some more clarity. I've read multiple posts and threads plus taken measurements. I've seen the debate over using a 457 vs a 458....both of which are 1/4" diameter.
My rims are the newer style. They...
Aluminum diamond plate is readily available in 1/8" thickness. It would probably have to have some frame and maybe a brake line in the middle for drainage, but could be made lighter than steel. 200# for one end of a cover does seem like a lot.
I consider the paint as a primer and just spot...
Yea, I couldn't agree more. Mine is a 929A2 that can haul a good size load for that frame size truck, and articulating with a load could cause this trouble fast enough. My real nemesis seems to be having to reverse in low transfer case gear.
74M35A2 mentioned having a couple straps, which...
I'm not being critical, don't take my various questions and statements the wrong way. I hope yours hold up and you never have to test to failure.
I've considered using them in a four link on a 4x4 but would have an entirely different mechanism to keep it centered...a "Watts link".
In line with the axis of the bone so that extreme twist has room to go 30+ degree.....but like you say, you may never articulate that far. Don't saturate the weld heat too deep. I was thinking your flat with 2 screws would be nice, but not near as fast as welding.

"I went: parking brake up, trans to neutral, transfer case to neutral, and engage the PTO, wouldn't go in without grinding (Disclaimer: I didn't allow it to grind; shut the engine down and engaged the PTO and restarted), and shifted to 1-5. In all honesty I'm not 100%...
Sorry, can't read that TM.
At first I thought you were referring to the transmission mounted PTO then also thought you meant the TC main crane hydraulics. I posted that before your longer explanation where you say ; "but I still can't get the PTO (front) in gear without grinding".
Since it's...
Here is the problem. When we articulate and go to extreme, the housing (of the bone) twists sideways. The rubber is supposed to take that compression (one one side of the shaft) and tension (on the other side) and return to it's straight position. As the rubber gets old, it doesn't take much...
Here is what I did to my hitch so I could use the M1101 with my pickup ball 2 5/16". I can add a bolt on ring at the higher location.
I noticed a lot of play and found bent metal brackets that when straightened, tightened the entire mechanism to what in must have been new. I also added a...
You might want to check out a modern electronic replacement.
Here is one thread to start;

I wanted to do that to my Power Wagon and never got around to it.
How does the gearing work with the TC driven PTO? On the Alison tranny mount PTO, like the M929 or 925, the truck should be stopped (or nearly stopped) and in gear. That stops the part that the ring gear is attached to and lets the PTO slide over, normally no grinding at all. However if you...
Great job on the rebuild!
Another possibility than electric might be hot water tubing. I'm sure a small water heater and circulation pump could be added. Maybe use engine heat.
I need the torque multiplier. On fleebay there are some with 2 sockets and some with 4 or more. I think the lug nuts are 38 mm, so need the one with 4 sockets.
My M35A3 is under the knife (making a 4x4) so I'm going to go behind the cab with the 395 spare. I'm not sure what to do with the...
