    5 ton ESP Prototype (M939/5TTR)

I was skimming an old military vehicle publication circa 1997 and found an interesting truck. It appears there was consideration to remanufacture the 5 ton trucks like they did the M35A2 -> M35A3 ESP (Extended Service Program). The blurb says it has the same Cat 3116 and Allison 1545 as the...

    Buying an m1102

I could vary by location. At LZ Phantom (Formerly Ft Hood) everything with red tape was "divested" and property of GP. I remember when they used the white window markers but they were not easily recognizable and some items got "lost in the sauce".

    Buying an m1102

Tape means they're tagged for GP. Pretty common unofficial method used on base. Primarily look for body damage and rust. They're hardy trailers and beyond a wheel bearing problem you're pretty good towing it home. I've had 60+ of them and only 1 had an issue that I couldn't tow it some safely...

    5 ton dies when revved

It appears to be throttle based. Turn in the screw on the injection pump shutoff solenoid to eliminate the electrical portion of the problem. Report back if any changes.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I woke this one up yesterday and it must have a story to share. Data plate shows M942 W/W Chassis, Truck. So it was special purposed, has the upgraded 100 amp alternator, winch, and just the odd designation of "W/W" which they didn't normally do for the M939 series truck. What were you??

Gov Planet fee increase for bidders

It's been hinted at that there was some "tomfoolery" on both sides including GL suing after the contract awarding, but the thing that sold Uncle Sam most on the original two contracts (basically rolling stock & non-rolling stock to keep it simple) was the % of return to Uncle Sam. For the...

Gov Planet fee increase for bidders

Funny enough I bought the small Hyster forklift from RRAD that GL owned when they croaked. It put holes in so many canned transmissions, crates, etc.. I call it the "Hole Puncher"

Gov Planet fee increase for bidders

When I see a fee imposed for my "convenience", "support", "value", etc this quote always come to mind: “It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced...

    M923A2 New tires.

I'd call some tire guys and get more specifics. I googled them before and no where does it say for on-highway use on any published .pdf. To be fair, it doesn't say the opposite either. Features & Benefits Applicable for use on soil, sand, and grassy conditions. Strong tread block connected...

How to unload and load a non runner from Albany, GA

They will only load RGN trailers if you have a non-runner. They have a large forklift to lift the rear of the truck and push it up on the trailer. All other loading support is non-existent.

Paint peeling off under my M925A0 bed...

Yes, pretty standard for poor prep before CARC. Chisel off the big flakes then power wash it. Use OSPHO in a 1 gallon spray bottle and let it set. Steam clean again and paint/reseal as you see fit.

    2003 1078 A1 derated ether start

MGVFD - There's some fear mongering going on.. don't be frightened of these trucks, A1 or not. I know the A&M forestry service is doing their part to turn over trucks to departments in need such as yourself and they're not experts on this equipment. I wish Brian was still head of the program, I...

    So the MTVR adventure begins

Oh know, I was there when it was revealed on SS. You'll like the MTVR once you get your hands on it. I feel it's much more thought out and "traditional" by design. I'm only ahead of you by a mere month when it comes to acquisition of these things. At the end of the day it's a Cat and Allison...

    Bricked ?

I recommend a rubber block to put in-between them just to be safe. Knowing Murphy, when they touch it won't be when you're sitting at home in a dry space with all your tools.

MTVR turns over but won't start

To what extent was this rebuilt? Full on down to the frame or just major components i.e. canned engine and etc?

This was just posted on a GP item today. Looks like our unknown wires are IR controls.

Any interest on a deep dive into Cat C12 oil systems? Specifically into Oil Pressure?

Of the 3 MTVRs I have, all idle around 10-15 psi. One truck has a freshly rebuilt engine with 3000 miles on it and it only idles at about 17 psi cold. I too was concerned about oil pressure but that is in spec says Cat. Now my Big Cam 400 loves oil pressure and will have 80 psi cold and idle hot...
