3 Phase to Single Phase Step Down Transformers

With a modest amount of load management a 803 should handle everything you need to get you through an outage. I have an 803 here and its too much for my house. Can't keep enough load on it to prevent wetstacking. Now I run it only to charge batteries or run high current appliances. The inverter...

3 Phase to Single Phase Step Down Transformers

Right now there is a generator listed for sale on FB Marketplace that would work far better than trying to take one of MEP804/805 machines and forcing them into a scenario they were never designed for. I love these machines but I also know they aren't for everyone nor are they for every job...

    Mep-803a vibration

Fuel, air, fire.. One of the three is missing. Fire and air are related since its a compression ignition engine. Do you have compression? Is air getting into the cylinder? For fuel its more straight forward. Is the fuel injection pump an injector working? You'll need to do some...

    Mep-803a vibration

Yep. Not firing on all 4 is the first thing to check. Break out the IR gun and measure the temps on the exhaust manifold. Should be obvious. Don't run it any more than necessary for troubleshooting. In case there is something mechanical wrong. Minimize any possible damage that running it is...

3 Phase to Single Phase Step Down Transformers

I need to ask the obvious question - why are you wanting to do this? As an aside, the 004 and 005 generation machines can be wired single phase. It is a bit of work but possible.

Did you see they were close out? I ordered a few to keep on hand.

Getting house ready for MEP-803 (or am I dumb?)

One thing you may want to do is check out the prices govplanet is getting for generators at the closest depot to you. Take the auction price and add 30%. That is about what a bidder will pay for a unit after fees and taxes. With that info you better judge the market conditions in your area.

    MEP-802/803 load bank info

These are prime rated sets. That means they can be run at their full rated load indefinitely. The rated load is 10kw. The set can produce more power than that. That extra should be considered reserve power for transient events such as starting an inductive load. The 52 amps includes the reserve...

    MEP-802/803 load bank info

Well, no. 52 amps resistive at 240v is 12.5 kw. The meter is calibrated for a 0.8 power factor. If you look at the gauge most of them have a red line at 80% which for a pure resistive load is your 100%. Edit If you have the voltage dialed down to 220v it’s 11.5kw. Either way it’s over 100%.

    802 dies, no overload fault

Check and see how much fuel you have returning to the tank with it not running in prime and with it running under some load. It’s ok for the return flow to drop a little but you should still get a nice stream back to the tank.

    Essex 427 loadbank

A 100 amp contactor will handle ~36kw at 120v which exceeds the 33kw capacity of the load bank.

    MEP-802/803 load bank info

The answer isn't really standardized since how much load and how long at each load should be based on what you are trying to do. If its routine run I'll do 15min each at 25%, 50%, 100%, 50%, 0%. If I'm in a hurry, I'll warm it up a bit then 50% for 15 min and 100% for 15 min. If I'm clearing...

Any generic 100A 3 phase contactor that fits should solve the problem.

    MEP-802A GP Win

How to phrase this.. You see, when a daddy generator... Nevermind. I've long given up on the creativity of the people handling these sets before the auctions buyers get them. You are going to want to pop all the covers off and give it a really good once over. Take it apart and post up more...

    Oil drain pro-tip

I expect you could put a strong magnet on the pan adjacent to the drain location to capture any magnetic fines in the oil. Remove the magnet as the oil drains and the fines should flow out with the oil. With the size and strenght of rare earth magenets available, you should have an even...

    Oil drain pro-tip

I've installed Fumoto oil drain valves on virtually everything I own. Makes changing the oil a LOT easier on the equipment with larger sumps. I'll be changing the oil on the M1081 this summer and I plan to add one to it as well.

Give this a look. You will see how the hub comes apart. The planetary is outboard in the hub itself.

MEP-002A Exhaust Question plus Machine Resurrection

+1 on not worrying too much about exhaust noise. You will get far better results from building some sound isolating walls to put up around the engine itself. I have a MEP003 with the ASK and it made a very noticeable difference to reduce the clacky higher frequency sounds that can be harsh...
