Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Ok.... been busy. Got the rotor turned the other day, and picked up the bearings and axle nut socket while I was there. Next day cleaned up all the hub parts, kept everything separated for each wheel back into the two trays I had everything in. Suddenly realized I'm missing an inner axle nut...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

I did a lot of maintenance on the truck back when I first bought it about 12 years ago. Have put 4 radiators in it... finally I got a total aluminum radiator including the aluminum tanks. Had to adapt the threads on a few fittings, but it has worked great ever since. And I had to replace the...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

sure hope so, I started out replacing the hood latch and cable... and ended up rebuilding half the truck  just what I have done since january when this all started with a hood latch: ➡ replaced hood latch and cable as hood had been hard to open, then wouldn't open at all without spending...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Ok, thanks for the input. I thought it might have been something like that. The local auto parts store only carry BCA, and they have them in stock. They couldn't even order the Timken for some reason. I have been pitching and catching lately, and just this evening got the truck back into my...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

at 40mph, I bet it would pull pretty violently. can the combination/proportioning valve be taken off and cleaned out, Without having to completely readjust it? Or is it not adjustable like the rear proportioning valve is?

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Yeah, I clicked the adjusters a few times to make sure they worked smoothly. I've decided to order calipers and everything this morning. Would rather do the job once and get the truck back to full working order. I'll need to haul some stuff soon, so I need to get this done. Still have to fix...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

I agree, and the right hub being warm seems to show something is up there. And yes I certainly don't want to need to stop fast and not have full braking power. Just one of the reasons I wanted to go through everything after the rear wheel seal failed and I found how the parking brake pieces had...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Yep, I backed up and stopped multiple times when I first drove it down the dirt road here. Then I would drive a ways and brake slow a few times, then hard a few times. Then repeated backing up and stopping a few times.

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

I went by the diagrams in TM's. Everything looked right, and the "stop lever" that only allows the adjuster gear go one direction seems right. Hope I got it right at least. Here is the drivers side when I got it done, obviously the passengers side is "reverse" but still has the parking brake...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Well... guess I'll find out how much is still "within range". After torquing to 50ft lbs, I backed the axle nuts off almost half a turn. Everything still felt good, no movement etc. I drove the truck today about 60 to 70 miles, felt of the hubs right after returning home and they were all cool...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

I got both sides all back together the other day. And yeah, I saw that wheel cylinder pin the when I posted that photo. I fixed it since. Just got the differential cover gasket all cleaned off, and reinstalled the cover with the new gasket earlier today. Unless something comes up, I should get...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

I already know the front wheel bearings have some wear. If you jack up the truck you can feel a little bit of slop in the wheel.

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Should finish up the rear axles tomorrow or monday. So... I'm now looking up parts to go through the front axle. From what I am seeing in the TMs, the front and rear wheel bearings are the same?? Outer Bearings / Race: LM104949 / LM104911 Inner Bearings / Race: 387AS / 382A Looking at...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Need input. I slowly tightened up the axle nut while spinning the hub. Below is where the locknut ended up at 50lbs. TM states to loosen enough to install key. Should I only back it to install it in the nearest slot, which is the one thats its already half aligned with. Or back i off to the next...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Here is an update to my progress.... I'm slow but I'll get it done eventually. Yesterday I made a new pin for the parking brake lever. Used a 3/8" Grade 5 bolt, not the threaded part but the smooth shaft portion. I cut the head off, then clamped my dremel tool off the side of my workbench...

Need Some Help with Rear Axle Seal "blow out"

Yeah the axle nut on this truck has round holes too. This socket had square pins, and the were spaced correctly. But would not fit into the nut. I could have took a dremel and ground the corners off of each pin, and it would have probably worked. If this other socket doesn't fit, thats what I'll...
