There is a mechanical limit to it (the stops) depending on the rheostat used they can jump and arc if turned too far

Also in fl. I have my 004 piped out of a shed 90 degrees up with a rain cap. I cut a hole in the wall and ducted the radiator out the wall. I also did some wiring to have it autostart on power failure

Its because they are not ment to be used to power a house. The neutral is bonded to the chassis to provide a ground reference.

Circuit breaker 101 they typically go off from 1 of 2 things thermal (overload) or magnetic (short circuit) alot of times they will be rferred to thermalmag breakers, (there are variations but not going too indepth in that) . The textbook definition of grounding is Providing a low impedance...
Not a fan of those taps, and by code, the conduits need bushings if the wire is 4awg or larger. I see noalox in there so thats good.

how are you taking these measurements? voltage at K2 when heaters are off and voltage at heaters when K2 is on? Might be normal voltage drop from loading. My personal opinion on testing glowplugs is to remove them power them and observe how long it takes them to heat and how they look when heated.
Friend of mine had to replace the cap (it was MIA from purchase) and the replacement (to me looks like a cheap knockoff) works but the hand grips andskin slip on the cap. well they used to until it got a visit from Mr Mig welder.
Depends on how hot the block is, and what your compression is like.
when is it harder to start, when its been off for awhile, or after its been running, stop it and restart it?
