MOST transfer switches dont switch the neutral, BUT there are some out there that do so it is very important to find out and setup your system accordingly.
Definitely need a neutral. Also be sure neutrals and grounds are separate. Make sure the neutral buss is not bonded to ground. Otherwise looking good.

And if that is the first means of disconnect you might not need a neutral. Big question to know for sure on that is whats feeding this panel?

Yea.... Tis an unfortunate thing. The people I help get one setup usually get an annoying text from me once every few months to go give their gen set some attention (this is more so they wont bug me at 3 am when the power goes out).
Please be careful with cams. Had one of our electricians killed when he goofed. Long story but they had this really bad practice of tape marking cams.
