I guess it could be a bad gauge, but there would be no way to test it with an IR gun because it cools off as soon as I slow down. And it only heats up on the highway, around town the temp its perfect at 195°.
It runs fine, in fact when I pulled the pan it was super clean. No residue on the bottom of the pan and no metal on the magnet. As for the engine I replaced all the belts, hoses, and thermostat. And added a HMMWV crossover tube so I could mount the temp gauge probe correctly.
Well I haven't had a chance to drive it on the highway yet to see if this new pan and fluid change has helped. If it still over heats (210°). Then yeah I'll focus on the RAD. I found a few aluminum ones that look promising and I've had VERY good results with them on Hotrod projects. And yes I...
Well I'm not much for math but I checked gear vendors final drive calculator and it says with the TH400 and 4.56 gears the final drive ratio is 3.56. I cross referenced that with a RPM calculator and I got 2773 RPM's at 70MPH. Now I don't know how much torque is needed or expended at that speed...
If it wasn't for dumb luck I'd have no luck at all:lol:. Well I got it installed today, and as it turns out our trucks already have the deep version of the trans pan that includes the filter extension. That being said there are 2 versions of this new (Derale) pan. A short and a deep. If I had...
I just got the pan tonight, It's 4-3/8" deep which shouldn't hang down any lower then the trans crossmember, skid plate, or the oil pan for that matter. I don't do any real off roading in this truck it spends most of it's life on the highway. And if I do I'll just make sure to clean out the...
Yeah unfortunately these shows today play to the masses, everything's a reality show anymore. I would point out to the producers that the (what is now called power block) shows have bin on the air for over 30yrs with a loyal fan base, but who am I, what do I know.:shrugs: It'd be nice if they...
Okay I'll be the first one to bring it up:gimp:. Of course the first episode had to be an interduction to the "Wacky" cast. But I liked the willys they did. I'm curious how much power that 4BT twin turbo makes? And they seem to deal with a lot of Military stuff. I saw a couple CUCV's in the...
Thanks guy's, the cooling system seems to be working fine around town, and if I keep it under 70MPH on the highway. I serviced it just before winter, and even added some water wetter to it. I also already installed a large trans cooler. My suspicion is (like Marcus said), that the Gear vendors...
M1028, TH400,with Gear vendors OD, Banks Turbo. I'm having some issues with the truck over heating on the highway. I think I've got it narrowed down to the NON locking torque converter slipping and heating up the RAD. Is there a thicker fluid I could use, that would perhaps give me less...
I can't imagine covering the back window would be illegal in any state. Panel vans, box trucks, and even m1010's have either no, or obscured back windows. You can order Chevy HHR's, and Dodge caravans as delivery vans with the back and side windows deleted. The only window definitely NOT allowed...
I don't want to hijack this thread but I think you just described the problem I'm having. I installed a Gear vendors over drive unit behind the TH400. And it works really well , but I get crappy fuel mileage, and it starts to run hot on the highway if I push it. Do they make a kit to retrofit a...
Agree I haven't stepped foot in an Auto Zone in about 5yrs. There "life time warranty" parts are a scam. Sure they'll replace them, but what good is that if they fail shortly after installation. They're parts are notorious for problems. My last straw with them was with they're "Duralast"...
I see a WARN emblem on there. Those are rebuildable , heck it's most likely just a take it apart, clean it, grease it, throw it back together kinda thing. You figure they spend there lives sitting in the weather, it's probably just dry?
