Has anybody seen a source for the fiberglass replacements? I want to replace my wood ones with the later fiberglass style.
Ive searched the three NSN from the parts catalog with no luck.
I see them offered with the whole frames, and kits, but there are none locally.
They seem to be specific...
I picked up a High Back conversion kit. It gives you a pair of the nicer high backs and a better mount for the drivers side that has more adjustment and travel. you have to drill out the rivets that hold the drivers seat contraptions and remove all that bull****.
It did not seem to interfere with mine.

Ive searched around the archives for opinions on the durability this specific combo but no luck so far.
Its a 1993 M998 6.5L 3spd. It currently cycles and starts perfectly with the normal 2 minute afterglow cycling.
I'm wondering if this combo is weak and needing upgrade, or just fine/not a...
Crazy story...three weeks ago driving into Needles on my way to Yermo to pick up my M998, we saw a big ol tire fly down the off ramp and through the intersection 100 feet in front of us. New-ish pickup grinding to a halt just up the ramp. Noticed this on a lot of the HMMWVs there...
Duh...I cant believe I didn't see that. I sanded the front numbers first and got fixated on it being a Q. Did the hood a week later and didn't put the 95Q and 950 together

Pretty thorough write up...but the string alignment method is only good enough to get you safely to the alignment shop.
These things need a good four wheel alignment to save your tires and handle properly.
I agree that taking it out and monkeying with it could easily stop the noise for a while. You know that axle is bad so you are doing the right thing by replacing it now
Since it is most prominent in forward gear, I thought first about u-joints in the driveshaft. And second, the carrier bearing in the driveshaft. I'd start there. work downstream toward the hub contraption.
One main reason for the folding windshield was to be able to deploy the M40 Recoilless Rifle.
