Ive noticed this different brown, too. I originally thought it was just faded CARC brown but it seems like it matches others with the same off brown. I want to keep mine as original as possible but i dont like the mismatch to the correct brown on the canvas.

That clear coat is a good idea. Mine was missing the door panels altogether. I found a set of blue ones and painted them with Rustoleum Satin Dark Brown. Seemed like a perfect match. Did the dash as well.
