Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I didn't get any photos at the event last weekend for some unknown reason (actually I forgot) but we've got another 3 day event coming up a week from Friday in Temple, TX. I'll try and get some shots of it milling around the herd of other MVs. It was easy to tell the real M561 veterans simply...

    Holy Cow Batman.... GL HMMWVS

The lots I looked at all said you had to sign an agreement that these vehicles were for "off road use" so not sure where you got that wasn't required.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

So before painting I vac'd, blew, vac'd, blew so much felt like I was working Victory Dr. Then painted and still I get to Austin with 1/4" of sand in the crew compartment.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

All loaded up for the big show this weekend. Of course I found some more yellow. Thankfully RAPCO paint comes in rattle cans. I've got 2.5 of them for the trip. Hope that's enough.

Aren't we all? Sure is handy having a vise at work level.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Very good. I think they're oatmeal raisin. It's still there. I can't walk past it without finding some more (the yellow on the brackets is facing the dash :)). The ironic thing is I still have to add yellow when I do the USMC markings. And I have found replacements for you but since you...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...I was prepping the driver's seat frame to paint when I discovered it had a nice clean break on one of the uprights. Keith_J is going to try and get over tonight to weld it back together. If he can't make it I think it'll hold up for now. A...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Tarp and I picked up a new canopy today (I can not keep these danged things from crushing like a empty Coke can). I figure the canopy will help out either for us if don't get the tree area or someone else if we do.

Before and After in case anyone doesn't want to read the whole thing. I guess it's not too bad for 10 weeks.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

You were the one that gave me the idea for the strap. As to being ahead of you it helps not having to worry about a job to go to although I lost a couple of weeks while it was at the blaster. Progress and quality are 2 different things. I really don't want to sit mine next to either of yours...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Oof. All day putting stuff back together and I'm still not done. Going to head out after supper and try and get the finishing touches on it. Got all the rear stuff finished. The pins for the 2 end slots on the tailgate went in fine but the center 2 took a little persuading with a drift to...

    What's up with draining all the fluid's when De-Miling a M1079 ?

A lot of posts have very stringent EPA regulations and rather than take the chance of being fined out the wazzu for a drop of oil spilling they simply drain the fluids. It's generally not an indication, good or bad, of the vehicle condition.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Well I'm no Zout but I try. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get the stenciling done before this weekend but it should be all back together. The next fun task that I'll put off for a week or 2 is getting all the electrical working right. It starts and drives (and isn't yellow) so for...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Weather was clear enough today to add another coat of paint. I've been running around so much trying to get everything done for this weekend that I almost forgot my NOS tailgate. Unfortunately it was on the other side of the shop (reason I forgot it) buried behind the radial arm saw and the...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

It was clear enough that I got the front wheels painted today. I spent about an hour taping the 1st one off so as not to get any overspray on the tire. After that I just shot the 2nd one straight. It's a junk tire and a REALLY junk wheel and besides, every wheel I ever saw painted while in...

I'll check on some new cartridges but when you paint once every 5 years or so it tends to get forgotten.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I dub thee officially "UNYELLOW!" Still not going to change the name though. With luck Monday may be rain free and I can get it outside and finish things up. If not I'll try and get some more light in the shop and finish there. One things some of you might have noticed (but I did not until a...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Got out early this morning and shot the sealer. One gallon wasn't enough to do the entire vehicle so I supplemented it with some rattle can primer. No ventilation in the shop so I had a pretty good cloud around the vehicle and got to the point where I couldn't really see much so it was as...
