I say save up and buy a good truck to begin with. It will save you money and work in the long run. If you don't mind a project, that's different. However, the tow bill for a non running truck may be huge.
I travel about every week for work. Some of the hotel wifi networks do the same thing to me. Some don't. I bet some of the computer guys here can explain it.
It appears that VSE messed up a bunch of them to one degree or another. I think one of my racks wouldn't quite fit right. A minor adjustment fixed it. Other people have had to do more.
Not that I'm aware of. The military sent a bunch to VSE to be rebuilt in 2006. Mine was rebuilt then parked. The newest you'll find would likely be a 2006 rebuild.
Get under the bumper and reach through under the radiator. It's a pain but I did it last weekend to tighten my belts. Be patient and you can do it with two combo wrenches.
I think it needs a little derusting and some paint. A treasured family heirloom is no good if it rust to the ground. Personaly I'd sell it to someone who would restore it. I know my family would rather see something fixed up and maintained than allow it to rust to bits.
