I was reading DDoyle's book last night, and it had a small writeup of the early 5-ton cargo trucks. It mentioned that there were M41 cargos (which ran on super single 14.00x20s) and the M54 cargos (which ran on dually 11.00x20s). I have never seen an M41. How many of these were made? Are...
Following the manuals, and the LO, and watching other work on their trucks, and doing maintenance on MY trucks, I am confused. Do the outer bearings on the deuce wheels get their lubrication from the main differential housing 90W, and it gradually migrates out toward the bearings as the axle...
Just want to make sure I do this right, I am not familar with the way current flows in a DC circuit (I know AC). Need to add a single light rear license plate light. Have the wire, have the light, not sure how to rig it up best. I'm sure it's best if it is constantly "ON", for legal reasons...
Saw this page in my internet travels. Another M123A1C restored! Looks like Alfa did a really nice job of it, too.

How many out there are planning on going to the Red Ball Fall rally in Gilbert, PA, Sep. 19-20? I will be set up on the parking-lot side of the fairgrounds, looking forward to meeting more Steel Soldiers there...
What kind of average mileage would one get out of a early 1950s gasser deuce, assuming standard configuration, no cargo, and engine/drivetrain runs well?
Someone told me that the bolts that attach the winch to the winch frame extensions are unique, and must be specially ordered. Is this the case? Where can I get the bolts, and what is the size of the bolts needed?
Will the armor tow hooks I see now and again fit onto the front lifting brackets for the deuce? I don't have one in front of me, but they look like they take a 1" pin....
Last weekend, a few Front Royal area Steel Soldiers members got together for a few beers at the American Legion, each of us driving our trucks. Got to meet each other after mostly just sending PMs back and forth, always a pleasure meeting new folks! Attending our little informal gathering were...
If I am changing my gear oil in the axles, can I use the old gear oil (filtered of course) as fuel in the deuce? I wouldn't use it as strong as 50/50 with diesel, just a gallon or two at a time.
I will be heading to TNJ Murray's in Delaware on Friday, 8/22. Tentatively plan on meeting nickd there unless something work related comes up.
Does anyone need anything specific there that they would like me to pick up at TNJ for them? Large items I might not be able to swing payment right...
ShieldWolf37 told me that his 1951 M37 has a double clutched transmission. He said that this was normal for manual shifting vehicles of the day.
My question is: did the later M37B1 have double clutched trannys, or did they have a single clutch?
Well, I finally got around to going up to MD to drag home the 5-ton trailer I bought off n3uka. It was previously a laundry trailer, all the gensets and laundry stuff has been stripped off of it. It is designated an XM-1061E1, made in 1994. Guess is was one of the earlier ones, it still has X...
Since I've had this truck in March, the truck has developed a leak in the outer rear passenger side hub seal, which would belch axle lube out during operation, and leave an unsightly blob of 90W gear lube on the hub. Eventually, if not dealt with, all the 90W would leak out of the axle housing...
Anyone see the custom 5-ton truck in the classifieds of the most recent MVM? It was modified into a 10x10, with one front steering axle, a M814 longbed, and 4 rear drive axles, all mounted on what looks like 16.00x20s. Very interesting, I'd be curious to know how well it handles off-road and...
Are the "european" lollipop turn signal lights, that get mounted on the standard deuce turn signals, are they supposed to light FORWARD or BACKWARD. I have seen most mount them with the lens facing forward, but to me it doesn't make sense. There is already a turn signal lens facing forward, to...
Am wondering how many out there use Packard waterproof connectors on their military electrical modifications, or just do an in-line splice with waterproof shrink-tubing. I haven't had good luck making Packard connections, just curious to hear why some folks do them, and some don't. I'm tempted...
I saved this pic from a while back, very nice M35A2 w/w. I noticed a light mount on the driver's side fender of this deuce, and it looks like a smaller version of the turn signal brushguard. What is this light mount? Not familiar with it.
I was by dm22630's place yesterday, and he showed me his new trucks. One he pointed out, he said that it has a LOT more power than the other deuces he has, that he was accelerating up hills, in 5th gear before the end of his driveway, etc. The only difference in that truck vs. the others, were...
