OK, got the new U joint installed. Here is a quick video of the actual play in the U joint and what it looked like when I got it taken apart. She drives like a totally different truck now. I always thought I was hearing the chains on the rear tailgate slapping against the back.. I guess not...
Thank you again guys for your assistance and persistence in telling me to check EVERYTHING! U joint has been ordered and should be delivered by Friday thanks to Erik's. I'll post up a pic for a before and after. Weird how the driveshaft can reverberate a sound and make it sound like something...
Do you see what I see…. Found it.. Now just need to order a new U joint.. You guys were right it wasn't inside but sure as heck sounded like it. It was the one connecting to the pumpkin on the rear diff. There is a little play in it which is causing the ping sound..
I think it's the rod or shaft that is inside the drive shaft, I wish I could see a cut-away from one but from looking on other sites I believe the inner shaft is held in place with rubber bushings, perhaps one or more of those failed which is allowing the inner shaft to be a little loose and...

Do you have a battery maintainer/charger that de-sulfates? I have brought both my deuce batteries back to life with it. The Battery Minders are the ones I use. I use two 12v chargers every now and then and it keeps them both nice and fresh.
Right next to the driver seat, in-between the seat back and the side that meets the door, the curved part. Just enough room there for it and I see the level every time I get in the truck, part of my SOP now.
Your hardest part will be how much the owner "loves" the truck. Perhaps ask him what he thinks it's worth, you'll know if you are even close or not. If he thinks it's worth $15K and you have a budget of $5 then??? We all here would love to see some pics.. may be able to give ya a better estimate.
