Sweet truck! I see you have the very handy towing device too.

What does CTIS offer that you can't do "by hand"?

I have had nothing but positive experience from the CTIS on the PLS. It has proven to be easy to use and reliable (so far). It greatly increases traction when needed. The only time I have stuck the PLS was when I failed to use the CTIS. Moving 90,000# around offroad and in the mud can be a...

Which US MVs have locking diffs?

RE: Oshkosh lockers... The Oshkosh PLS has both inter-axle and intra-axle lockers. All ten wheels can be locked up. Just turn the switch on the dash to emergency (while in low range)

Which US MVs have locking diffs?

I have a pair of 5 ton lockers sitting on the shelf. I had planned to use them, but haven't got around to it, yet. If anyone gets serious and wants them, please send me a pm. Here is a comparison picture of the detroit locker for the 2.5 ton and the 5 ton.

    Need inspection at Chambersburg, PA.

I am interested in the M945s they have there. I hope to get 1, maybe 2 of them. They look to be in great condition and are very useful with the alumninum pallets. If anyone gets by there and finds any mechanical deficiencies, a heads up would be appreciated. Thanks.

    New rule proposal...

Wow, the "C" word has been dropped. SS doesn't want the legal liability on that one.

    Last M123a1c

I hope it stays under $25K so I can have a shot at it.

Mileage on 5 ton and 2 1/2 ton trucks?

I would expect much better mileage with the deuce/multifuel compared with the M809 series.

    New rule proposal...

Re: RE: New rule proposal... I think this is all pretty silly. Both sides. Let's get back to wrenching.

    Air-O-Matic power assist steering

Glad to see these are back, they are good products. I don't know if these are NOS or a new production run, but the previous farewell hoopla and sudden reappearance reminds me of the Judds' many farewell tours! I have a couple of these sets from Mr. Bloom and have been very happy, but at this...

    Tire Size??

Yep, that is my plan for the M818. Go for it. You will like it.

    Changing Deuce Tires

That is a very common mistake. At least you discovered it early on and were able to complete the mission! A good habit is to always look at the end of the studs. The usually have a "L" or "R". You can also look at the threads.

    Would you pay $16,000 for a M246A2?

If you are going to do mostly vehicle recovery, then I would get a common wrecker such as M543 or M816 to get the rear winch. If you are going to do mostly crane, work the M246 or M819 is better suited due to additional reach.

    818 and 813 frame ???

The M819 tractor/wrecker has the looooong wheelbase, 215" IIRC.

    14.00 tires vs 16.00 tires on 5ton

I plan to run 15.5s or 395/85R20 on my M818. Just one of many projects lying in wait....

    Last M123a1c

I don't know how much the truck is worth, but it probably has about $10,000 in tires on it. Better plan on $20K or more to bring it home...
