You can adjust the valve with the engine running but the TM has you adjust it with the engine off. The valve should hold a vacuum.
That will not work with the way GM wired the truck. Others have tried and failed. Grounding is the issue.
The charging system is very simple once you understand it. It works very well for what it was designed to do.
Easiest place is at the GP relay on the firewall. Leave everything as is.
Attach a wire to to the small terminal with the light blue wire. Run that wire into the cab, attach it to a momentary switch. A 10amp will work fine.
Then attach the switch to ground. There is a 6 prong ground terminal...

The 60gs are 10 volt plugs. The way the system is designed is that 24v (NATO requirement) is fed to the large resistor pack on the firewall and then to the GP relay. When the GP closes, the 24v is fed to the plugs.

The 27SI is just the housing size. The Type 100 is just 100 amp.
The GEN2 alternator has to be built as an isolated ground. If not some big fireworks will happen.

You said you replaced the GPs. What plugs did you use?
You need to check the voltage at the pink wire on the injector pump. Also you need to check to see if you can hear the fuel shutoff clicking when pink wire is reattached.
Do NOT ever use ether on a diesel that has glow plugs. Bad and expensive thinks can happen.
By typing "Dot 5 Dot 3" in the Google search at the top of the page will bring you hundreds of threads that have covered the topic.
Since you truck is a 1962 M55, more than likely it will be Dot3. Take a sample out, put it in a glass jar and mix the same amount of new Dot3 with it. Shake it up...

I don't know the answer, but I can tell you this. My step son has a 1978 K10 and it has the newer style lock nuts. One of his was screwed up and I picked one up at the local pull-a-part.
