3rd engine since I have had it. Hopefully the last.the gas engine for it ran good, but every gasket and seal was shot on it.
GA rally is in the back of my head, but I don't think it will happen. I will drive it to the marango show this weekend, see how it does.
Got it fired up. Likes to stall at idle when you let out the clutch. Runs a lot better if you have fuel in the tank. Turned up the fuel, at 1000° it feels like it has the same power as the old engine did at 1150°. Need to adjust the clutch a little. I will drive it like it is for a while, and...
After nearly a year, looks like the M108 is fixed. Didn't have oil filters for it, so waiting on that, everything else is done.
Dan (therainbowboxer) came over Saturday and we spent the next 11 hours working. Pulled the old engine, transmission, and radiator, swapped everything over to the...
I gotta put oil filters on it tonight, and it should be done.... I don't recommend towing a M915 with it!
Should I go get my medical card updated so my CDL is good to go?
If anyone is going back your way from the Marango show, it can catch a ride.
Pulled the powerpack(engine, rad, tranny) from the M108, swapped everything to the new motor, and set it back in yesterday. Hope to hook it all up today.
Didn't get too much into it, but the A/W crane on the M108, would hit the tank/toolboxes if it was raised any higher. The hoist drum almost touches the toolboxes when the boom is raised all the way. I can get stuff on deck though, with the boom up and retracted. Only on the rear deck.
Looks like a typical GM piece, probably made in shop. The one ton rating was for whatever hoist they had on it, not typically the rating of the gantry itself.
Not sure on length, but with a single layer full drum, and hook all the way retracted, I have enough cable to make a double line hook touch the ground at full height.
Non-turbos smoke pretty good at stock fuel settings. The turbos were added as a "clean air kit" to non turbos, to make them smoke less. They were not set up to add any power.
But, turbo engines do make more power than non-turbo engines when the fuel rate is increased.
Looks like you will be doing pretty much the same as mine. I have a couple of threads up on when I went through mine.
I'd recommend replacing all the brake hoses. Mine even had some bad steel lines, ended up replacing all of them also.
I have a homemade boom support you can have. It's ugly...
Sorry I missed your call Steve... Hiding out in the camper at the moment. Mine didn't leak any oil, nor did it vibrate. Was idling and went bang. Let us know what you figure out. Bring it up here and we could have a motor swapping party with yours and the M108.
