    Oil Leek at highway speeds

If you put your finger into the filler hole, with your first knuckle through the hole, and your finger tip bent downward, it should just touch the oil... So it should be more like 1/2 inch below the threads on the filler plug's hole. There is a lot of argument about what the level should really...

    Deuce ground contact pressure

The average pressure your tires put on the ground is slightly more than the air pressure in the tire. The casing has some capability to remain round even without internal pressure, so that will add to the ground pressure. And, the tire's lugs are quite hard rubber, so they will apply...

OMG is that brake fluid or gear lube???!!!

As I understand it, the fording kit used a low pressure regulator to pressurize the various axles and gear boxes to 1 psi, or so. -Chuck

OMG is that brake fluid or gear lube???!!!

Because the flow from the axle vents is nearly nothing, you can "T" the individual vents to a common line that goes to the front of the truck. If your air cleaner can is like mine, it has a short chunk of 1 inchish pipe sticking out of the side that was meant to take a hose coming from the...

    Who went to aberdeen?

Some kind of sign that the vendors could post would be excellent. I am of an age where if I am standing close enough to talk with you, I am too close to read a badge the size of a vendors badge without reading glasses... Somehow, I don't think I am alone in this malady -Chuck

    2010 aberdeen BS/for sale/who's going/when and where

My deuce, Sprout, thanks you for the new fiberglass headache board. She will wear it proudly... and I will avoid the cargo induced headache. -Chuck

    Who went to aberdeen?

Well, of course. But if might be more fun for SS members that don't know the local SS members if there was some way to figure out who the SS guys were. Going around and asking every strange face I meet if they are on SS just isn't my cup of tea. -Chuck

OMG is that brake fluid or gear lube???!!!

Because the vents have a spring pressing on the rubber disk that seals the vent, there will be a little pressure build up. It shouldn't be a problem with an axle that has good seals, and a properly done seal for the keyway. The keyway cork seal tends to degrade and shrink over time, so it...

    Deuce engines

They pretty well had to put the OD 4th in the MF's transmission, or the MF trucks wouldn't be able to keep up with the gassers. The axles between the two are the same, as are the tires. The top end of the MF engine is much slower than the gasser. The old gasser went to 60MPH with its 1:1...

    Who went to aberdeen?

Yep! That was me with my Sunset Beach T-shirt, and boonie cap. I am certain I met quite a few of the guys, but I couldn't tell. I couldn't quite bring myself to ask everyone I met who they were. I figured at least there would be someone selling Steel Soldiers T-Shirts. It was a beautiful...

    Deuce engines

The turbo got put on the LD465 engine purely to reduce the smoke from the exhaust. The non turbo engine couldn't get enough air to burn cleanly, and that makes them rather unpleasant to be around. Clearly the army wanted to go let the deuce go faster than 45, or they wouldn't have gone to the...

    Who went to aberdeen?

I was there Friday and Saturday. Lots of nice trucks, great deals, and even a helicopter. I met with a few folks, but by-and-large, it was difficult to figure out who was who. Other than Jatonka, and Maddog308, nobody seemed to have their screen names on display, and that Steel Soldiers even...

OMG is that brake fluid or gear lube???!!!

The best way I have found to get gear oil out of brake shoes is to put the shoes in an oven, on newspaper, and heat them up to 200-300F. The heat causes the oil to thin out, and expand, which helps to get it out of the brake linings. After you take the hot shoes out of the oven, wipe them down...

    Peppy Deuce

The governor is a centrifugal type that is known as a flyball governor.

    Peppy Deuce

If the IP and its governor are set up right, the engine shouldn't be able to hurt itself at full throttle... even with no load. Shouldn't and couldn't are not necessarily the same thing, though.... -Chuck

    Alternator woes...

No way that I'd make that assumption. 99% of the alternators out there are 12V, and without a strong pair of reading glasses, us older folks can't read labels worth a darn. Ask him. It's kind of important. -Chuck

    SF97 with sale issues

Maryland doesn't permit skipping titles unless the seller is a licensed dealer. They want the tax revenue that comes with your purchasing a title for the truck before you sell. Maryland will even fine you late fees on the taxes you didn't pay back to the date the SF97 was issued. -Chuck
