So, a buddy of mine has a "shop trailer" that has a body like this. Is it essentially the same as the one that is found on this deuce trailer? Curious as to what it may be worth.
I'm building basically that exact truck. I bought a mid 90's COE C8000 Ford with a cummins 8.3, and then military trucks parts, such as air-converted 5 ton axles and sheetmetal. Should be building it here in the early summer.
Engine is still in the frame, which is a big BIG bonus. My previous...
You're probably doing a great job with the oxy torch, but I wanted to lend my opinion that one place a plasma cutter shines is cutting out rivets.
I know, not everyone has access to a plasma, but if you can lay your hands on one, it will allow you to make really nice clean and quick swipes of...
Hey guys, quick question - is there any hub bolt circle (where the drive plate bolts on) or spline difference between the M54 through M900 series 5 tons?
Looks like spline is 2 1/8" diameter, 16 spline...
Any standard mechanical pyrometer will work for you. As has been stated, the light is going to be 12v, but it's not that hard to figure out a small resistor to wire in series to drop the voltage to let it run on 24v.
I have one on my M35 - it was very very easy to wire up and figure out.
The drums are not the main issue IMO with the brakes - the big concern is the single circuit. There isn't a ton of flow or pressure from the stock master, and if you lose one brake cylinder or get one leak, you experience total brake failure.
The drums are well sized for the deuce. 13k lbs...

Sorry guys, late to the party. Here's my list on improvements for highway speed:
- r22.5 radials, with ribbed steers in the front (Same size as rears)
- Repower and higher OD transmission (.695)
- Power steering (outboard, to clear the new, wide engine)
- Front axle caster "flipped" via...
Nice TIG work on the splined puck.
Hey, one thing I've found in mucking around with the deuce steering is that, after building two new steering systems, I would prefer to use modern Tie Rod Ends as opposed to the ball ends (can't remember the term for the balljoint steering interfaces). As...
Measure the transmission in the truck already, and then measure the one going in, taking stock of all the things that will need to move to fit the 9 speed. You're soon about to appreciate the length concerns presented by any type of transmission swap.
Best,
Bob

Hey Jatonka, I know of a mechanical 8.3 with Allison trans in Ohio for $4000.... I would have grabbed it had I basically not found an amazing truck trade deal with an old friend here in Colorado. PM me if you want the details.
I'll definitely put together a flickr account, and I'll post the address when I get started, which will be after ski season here in Colorado.
