Cooler looks OK after cleaning, but the cover is toast. Nasty ole galvanic action.
Not getting much in the way of results google searching yet...
I think this deuce was gas, and was swapped multi. Is there a way to tell if I have the OD diesel 5th or direct gas version?
Thanks
Went to visit the neighbors...I can cherry pick what I need but it has to be within a couple days because it all going to a museum. Can't touch the nice green service body deuce. They said they'd trade me or something which is great, but now lots of work in a rush. Suggestions on spares to get...
I'll get the temp gun out and see if I can tell which cylinder is missing. Mechanics stethoscope too maybe. Front end sounds like a bearing going bad, was going to check radiator inlet and outlet temps, see if I could determine if the water pump is working.
When I got mine running recently, I had a board ready to cover the intake to the turbo. I hadn't read this, I'm lucky I didn't need to. What about just taking a knife to the inlet line to the fuel density compensator or hydraulic head?
I did notice it puffing smoke at idle, and quite a bit with throttle, which would indicate unburned fuel methinks.

I just thought of something else regarding that miss. One of the injector lines at one point in the past must have gotten a hole in it and was welded very poorly, and now that I think about it that one might be leaking at the hydraulic head, so maybe it's plugged up where it's welded, or...
I'll get right on the valves.
I think that housing is aluminum but I haven't looked closely. I'm sure we can come up with something.
I really hope the axle problem isn't serious. Couple pics for fun.
Climbing up over that curved lower doorsill into my dads deuce is one of my early...
Duh. Been spending too much time around hydraulic lifter engines lately. Thanks
Did some piddling around climbing in and out of the hole out back after work today, and took the wife and kids for a ride. Kinda figured out the twin shifter business...things have to be just right to get what you...
Lets try a video...
Bit of what sounds like a valve tick, maybe it'll free up, or maybe some marvel mystery oil...

That's what I figured, and the way I like it-manual. It's uh, very "farm-brew" though. There's a turn turn buckle bolted to the rear inside of the cab to tension the T-case shifter.
Gotta get rid of the 20 other levers in the cab left over from the water truck apparatus...
Discovered there's nothing wrong with the transmission other than somebody disconnected the connection between the transmission and transfer case and turned it into two separate shifters.
EDIT: actually, nasty rattle in 1 and 5
I run/own (family) a good size general machine and welding/ industrial supplies shop, and one of the many things we fix/sell is hydraulic cylinders, etc.
I'll have Vitons here tomorrow...but I did get impatient, used std Orings and drove it around the yard tonight. I'm stoked. Thanks! Kind of...
800 Series superior off-road ability?
EDIT: nevermind, I had forgotten that it was a USMC spec truck, so it has lockers, and so yes, superior capability...

From personal experience in Iraq, I can tell you that these things are unstoppable. They...
