    Engine swap fuel efficiency?

If you're blowing black smoke, well, that's the engine throwing unused fuel into the atmosphere. Literally, black smoke are little droplets of diesel encapsulated in carbon, which aren't being burned because there's not enough air in the combustion chamber. There is a point for every N/A diesel...

    Motor Swapping

You know, I did the 3208 because I had a cheap one, and I lucked into a turbo for $80. If I had the choice to do it over again, I would have chosen differently. I would have made the transfer case relocation part of the job, instead of an afterthought to fit a bigger tranny. I would have...

Hot... yeah, that is a big job, which I'll be doing my best to avoid. :)

WATCH FOR GL AUCTIONS AT SELFRIDGE!

    ton axles on a Deuce?

6.44 or something, right? By the way, you can easily spin the chunks (3rd members) on the axles and yes, everything still spins the right way. It's a little weird to fathom, but it works. Well, when I say "easily", chunks are only 200 lbs or so for 2.5 tons, which is heavy but liftable by...

Idea on tightening up the lateral movement for rear tandems

Ok, it seems like everyone here is pretty much thinking what I'm thinking. Who knows. If I get some time in the next few weeks, I might throw some scraps of ½" plate in there and see what happens. Bob

Idea on tightening up the lateral movement for rear tandems

So you know how the rear tandems utilize the rear leafs to position the axle laterally, right? I was looking at this over last weekend, and it looks as though there's alot of slop built into the system. The slop is seen where the lowest leaf sits in its guide, and I'm referring to the guide...

Rockwell axle wheel studs and lugnuts?

Linseed oil for thread locker Linseed is an old wrench trick in many circles for a thread "gummer"... doesn't REALLY lock the threads like Locktite, but when it dries, it does a pretty good job of keeping the threads locked.

GO & GAA lubricants (they're back again!)

I use a Caterpillar product in my Spicer 6855 - syncro safe, and essentially an upgraded "mineral oil". It's called C40 or something like that. It was $50 for the 5 gallon bucket, and it was in stock at a local fleet oil place. If anyone wants to know, PM me and I can take a look tonight. I...

What do you do with parts you 'don't need' anymore?

I built a shed. Seriously. PS Linky, please, to the MV auction in Oz.

Idea for super singles - just flip one axle's hubs?

Jim, Thanks for the offer, but I'm pretty set on tools over here, and you know, the more I think about this, the more I think I'm just going to rock new wheels for the front. Yeah, Randy, thanks for the insight. As rare as these 22.5 six hole budd wheels are, I doubt I'll be cutting these up...

Rockwell axle verification please ??? (u-joint style)

Another way... Axles with data tags printed in blue ink that say "rockwell" are typically u joint, and if they have a plate printed in Black ink that says "timken", they're older style joints. Also, the very ends of the drive flanges are subtlely different... as I recall, if the inside of the...

    About our transmission...

It's too bad the spicer 3000 series is completely obsolete, because otherwise, you'd be able to do cool stuff like swap that input gear for one from a different model within the series (along with the corresponding input gear on the countershaft), and really play with all the splits across the...

Idea for super singles - just flip one axle's hubs?

Well, I finally stumbled across some good used radials for the front, so I was finally able to get my deuce above 45 the other day. Previously, I had bigger tires on the rear, which hosed my caster and prevented any sort of speed. Now, with proper caster, I'm now realizing how important Front v...

    About our transmission...

Gringel, You rock. Jim, the 9 or 13 speed project has been put on hold for now. I am going to use the .695 OD 5spd tranny I have for a while, until I can dedicate a couple of weeks to moving the transfer case and brake stuff back.... which needs to get done to fit anything longer-larger in...

Recent GL Auctions - no SF97 or Title offered?

Has anyone else seen the recent auctions across the country that are very clear in stating that they will not provide SF97's or Titles? What are people doing with these trucks, then? Sounds like a phenomenal pain in the kiester to title from *scratch*. Bob

    MV security

I run a battery disconnect, and I also made a SUPER heavy duty chain securement for the steering wheel, way heavier than the stock chain. I am using lifting chain, which looks to have a little hardening, as a much more secure option to lock the steering wheel.
