You could also look at steerable tag, which would give you the option of leaving it down while cornering. They use them on some tri and alot of quad axle dump trucks.

Part of my problem was letting the engine idle while I was tweaking on the carb, I'd get it to sound good and give it a little gas and it would just bog, sputter and spew black exhaust.

I was thinking the same thing, I have numous carbs sitting around that I could use. Something in the 500-600 cfm range would work, I think smaller than that might evan be better since these engine don't turn alot of RPM. I'd like to keep it orignial so I may spend the money on a Zeinth and see...
Are the Holley carbs better than the zeniths? I 've tweaked and tuned on the Holley I have but I just won't run great. It starts good when it's cold but once it the engines warms it seems to loose power and If I shut it off when its warm it's a bear to start if it does at all.

I've had bearings run hot when they were new, evan with the correct amount of load on them. The problems were that the bearings were over greased to the point that its restricting the rollers in the bearing cages during their rotation. Grease is good to much can cause some issues.

Your correct, I do need to get the manuals. I pulled the recomended manual numbers off the data plates but I'm looking to get them in hard copy's. I have went through and started to pull the manual's up that are on the site but they take a long time to load with a dial up.

Can any 5 ton have a winch installed? I looked at my transfer case and I don't see any PTO access. There is a cover on the rear of the transfer case but it looks to be for inspection, can someone point me in the right direction.
