tough question as there seems to be a lot of variation between different member's trucks. I bypassed mine and could tell a difference. I installed a pyrometer and it is still well in the safe zone ( the highest Ihave gotten it up to is 1050) I plan on turning it up a little more.

for extra challenge do it on a slope.
If you try to slide the bed forward over the wood spacers it may just shove them(don't ask how I know) forward. I would try to get the bed as close as possible to it's final...

I have never heard that before.
on the other hand I have heard that the 6602 gasser found in 5 tons is a torque monster.
the old tires (long gone) were six differernt brands 1100 20's that had been re-capped the same. they had age checking you could stick a quarter in.
the bed is from a former seabee truck. that is how the rings were when i got it (I did slap another coat of paint on them when I redid the bed)
