There have been 2 letters to the editor at Survivalblog in response to the original article about the deuce. The first is by a gentleman that states he worked for AM General during the 80's and he has some interesting comments. One of them is in regards to the turning radius of the deuce...
1st - Thanks for keeping the power on. I prefer that to $3/gal diesel going through my MEP003A.
2nd - Maybe you have a little insider knowledge as to what the utility companies are doing to prep for another Carrington Event (which even NASA says is coming).
3rd - For all you preppers that...
He said one could go anywhere a Jeep could go but failed to add the caveat "with the appropriate overhead clearance." I can put a Jeep in my shop or drive through the oak trees on my property in one but to do that with my deuce would cause damage to one or the other.
The other consideration...
The funniest part is this is an actual GL lot (I don't think the duck is included but if you take the lot photos you could argue it was pictured). I didn't notice if an EUC was required.
The new cables are all single pin but there are adapters to use them on a 2pin vehicle. If you have 2 adapters you can jump 2pin to 2pin with the single pin cable as well. If you're just looking for the period correct cable to have with a display then eBay, retail MV dealers, or the...
Well the time has come. The Fill the Deuce Food Drive is this weekend. Due to location difficulties we will only be at ONE spot and that is WalMart at the corner of Loop 1604/HWY 281 on the north side of San Antonio. WalMart gave us a great location ON their sidewalk pad between the main...
I put a lot of money into getting my A/C going and it was pretty much wasted for the driver. I can get the box down to about 70 when it's 95 outside but the cab stays about 105 while driving. Problem with these trucks is there is zero insulation in the cab compartment (okay, maybe a little on...
Thanks.
My thought is some enterprising young troop decided it was easier to put the cab cover on while standing in the middle of the hood. Either that or it's just one more thing GL liked to do in order to devalue a vehicle (like a forked driveshaft only top side).
Welcome! And has been said, check out the Lonestar MVPA. Meetings are the 3rd Wed of the month at the Camp Mabry Museum. Next meeting is on the 20th.
If you're just jonesing to crawl on a deuce we're having the 2nd Annual FILL THE DEUCE Food Drive for Operation Homefront this Saturday at the...
Okay, here' s a twist. I have the same cabling that goes to a 25amp regulator (parts truck no engine so no gen to check) but the "rectifier" appears to be smaller than the ones posted and bolted to the outside of the glove box instead of by the grille. I assume by the positioning of it near...
I know you're looking for the "tow behind" type but for others looking for the "perfect" MV Camper but not wanting something as big as a M109 I would suggest the M1010. Heat, A/C, better fuel mileage, sleeps four, AND you can go through most drive-thrus for that late night snack.
Of course...
Use your favorite search engine for "Carrington Event" or something similar and you'll find a ton of info. Here's one that is short and sweet regarding things similar to the 1859 event and what might happen if it were to reoccur.
Could Another Carrington Event Destroy Our Economy?
You'll get a magnified effect from a massive Coronal Mass Ejection that will be greater than an EMP (same effects) so any vehicle that will stop working from an EMP will also go down in a CME event. If you lose power then there won't be anything to run pumps to get fuel (gas or diesel) so any...
2deuce,
My understanding is it doesn't matter day/night as a CME will travel the magnetosphere (pole to pole). The Carrington Event in the 1850's set telegraph poles on fire and if we had another occurance like that it would likely fry just about every transformer around so no power. Without...
