I would add that the 900 series truck has impressed me a lot so far. It is a Caddy compared to a deuce or 800 series. Cruises 55 @ 1800rpm easy. Steering, wow...it steers as easily as a full hydro unit. Brakes? Yep, them to with full air and abs, you can use your big toe to stop the thing...
Ha, yep...I redrilled the #2 pattern. Good memory Armydillo! :) The NV4500 I think has an aluminum tail housing but the case is positively cast iron. The problem with marrying the 3053(A) is that the demand is so, so low that nobody will make the kit/investment for all 8 of us that think...
I rebuilt a NV4500 a few years back and parts weren't tough to get then or surprisingly way expensive and I replaced a substantial amount of parts. That was a few years though... Oh, NV4500 is an externally ribbed IRON case and is within 5 to 10 lbs of the 3053's. The Dodge slip yoke ones had...
A neighbor had a gas engine on a Polaris atv, and older 2 stroke 250, get so hot that it didn't need ignition. Key off and kept running, kill switch off and kept running, spark plug wire pulled...and kept running. Only thing that finally killed it was revving it up real high then killing...
Steel. Unless you're planning on having like a couple gallons of water in so the fuel slosh will still never see any oil to the bottom of the tank...I don't think you'll have to worry about it rusting out from the inside. A top pick up would keep any fuel lines higher from any debris or off...
I was on a commercial fishing dock some years back with a friend of the family when we heard a diesel start spooling up. I thought it was odd to have it (what I thought) was against the governor at the dock then the boat owner came walking down the dock right as a mechanic came running out of...
Summit or Jegs has a radiator that comes close to dropping in and they cool very well. IIRC, you need to move the passenger's side radiator mount over (wider) to fit the larger radiator. Kept my 427 outta the red. Also, install a good oil cooler...tough to go wrong there.
Yep, a little rear ballast helps with road manners. What a fully dressed 20,000lb Garwood with 270' of 5/8" and full level wind weigh? 500? A buddy of mine has a 416 (long wheelbase, 20" longer) and has hundreds of pounds of ballast on the rear from a German team that had ran it. Also, check...
If you're going to throw on lockouts (and their price), and a pair of ARB's in the rear (and their price), slap a Detroit or Yukon in the front that way when the tandems are spinning on wet grass you'll still have the full front to pull it out.
One other note, I know beggers can't be choosers, but if this does come to fruition, it would be nice if they were low profile like the Selectro 2.5 ton hubs and not tall like the AVM or OEM units. I would be interested in a set, but not if it's going to stick out 4" from the hub!
