If they were all laying the same way on the floor after being put on the wheel, then one side would be forward and one side backward. Change them side to side and you'll have them the correct way.
Oh, and a tractor company told me that you'll see some of the big combines with the drive...
If you end up with XL's, do yourself a favor, buy a tire grooving tool and cut the tread blocks. Just one 5/16" or 3/8" cut across the tread makes a big difference in traction on those. You double the biting edges and don't have a huge, bald tread block. I had a set on Velvet way back when...
Okay, that one surprises me. "...just barely strong enough," considering the tremendous amounts of heavy attachments available and being a high speed tractor in Europe. After going through my front axle I was more impressed with the design and built in strength these units have. The Mog's...
We're all welcome to our opinions. I sold my M715 listed as a 5 quarter ton because 3/4, 1, and 1-1/4 ton chassis are crap compared to the Unimog chassis or running gear. All bodies can rust off but there's not really any kind of comparison to say 1 ton Chevy running gear and 406 running gear.
The three bolt and three bolt curved pattern on each side give them away quick. I passed a rollback the other day and he had one at the front of the bed- ...that surprised me as it didn't even look too old either. Maybe a re-bed on a new chassis.
The truck was still able to grind the front axle around with NO roller bearings left on the pinion. The roller bearing was pulled out of the bottom of the differential so it passed through the R&P. Ouch...and it was still driving! ...though making a noise.
Ran across this the other day thought it was pretty amusing...
“Unimog is the cockroach of all purpose vehicles. When the last H1 Hummer has turned to dust, when the final Land Rover has rotted into topsoil, there will still be Unimogs roaming the planet. You can’t kill them, they go anywhere...
He asked backspacing, not front spacing. For the states where you can't have a ton of tire hanging out from the fender, are the narrow track rockpig designs the same cost?
For those of you that have chenged to Dexron, about how much fluid did you have to use to for the full flush in multiple times? I'm going to do this to my 932 and just want to make sure. Also, if anyone has the filter numbers handy, it would be appreciated.
Thanks!
The 1160 and 3208 V8 CAT's got a poor nick name of "throw away engine" because they were not liner engine with replacable sleaves. Lots and lots out there, loved, hated, pushed to limits in twin turbo high hp marine versions...it really boils down to their history and who loved them or not.
Evidently you don't know Bob very well.
Have fun with that Bob, sounds like a good project.
There should be a way to swap center hubs from one clutch disk to another. I know I've done that before in a different application.
That tranny was originally a 3052, then regeared in the 70's, then swamped at some point by a NJ water rescue group, then lubricated with a gallon of water and a cup of oil for who knows how long, then frozen solid (right after I bought it), then filled with oil, then put a 600ftlb CAT V8 in...
