Stay away from planning on using a 48' or 53' container. The 20's and 40's are the ones to focus on. Obviously a 40' if shipping a deuce. Those are the most standard size containers getting floated around the world.
Another thing to consider is crawl speed. When I went from 1100x20 (measured 42") Goodyears on my Rockwelled M715 (Velvet) to 395/85 XML's my crawling speed increased a LOT. May not matter to a strictly road guy but if you're slow go or on trails...expect a speed increase. A low idle didn't...
I *think* the winches are the same. I would absolutely NOT plan to use any of the 211's winch mounts or drive parts and go and snag that stuff from an M35. Something sticks in my mind that they're the same winch.
You haven't heard loud in a deuce until you heard an 1160 CAT installed with the bright idea that the stock mutlifuel didn't have mufflers (forgetting a turbo is a muffling device) and put on dual stacks. Yeah, that's loud- trust me. Before I added over 4,000lbs of crane to it I could kick the...
Probably looking for an Allison 2000 unit. I think that's the truck version of the venerable Allison 1000 units without the internal parking pawl like the pick up truck units.
Sorry mate- that's what happen can happen to the 10 & 20,000 lb Garwoods when they're neglected. Good news is that the 20's are kicking around hear and there surplus or on GL or you may even find one with a busted case where the cable stacked up and shoved the lower connecting tie rod (between...
The NDT's single biggest problem is the full center rib down the center of the tire. Lets say you are in mud, like 20" of it and find the bottom- now what? You have no center of tire traction to help grab at the bottom you found. Get it? If the center rib was cut on an angle between the...
Ummmm...if that worm gear is pitted you may as well not put it back together until you find a new one. Remember you're driving that big bronze bull gear with that under pressure. Probably not something you really want to chew up with a pitted worm drive.
Yep, that's the problem. I don't need one that someone restored. I need a half decent body tub to build from or a project someone has lost interest in. Thanks for the quick search though! [thumbzup] Take care mate!
Not to be Devil's Advocate, but does the clutch work? EVERY 20,000lb Garwood I've come across surplus or GL has had the in/out clutch frozen and usually in the out postion. I just rounded up another and it's stuck engaged. I've managed to get the others free by an odd type of Laparoscopic...
HA! I have evidence now! Okay...I had been commissioning a machine in China for two weeks and could actually do well, and much better than my work partner, at understanding the Chinese speaking and/or trying to speak English.
I get to Australia and I didn't know what the heck...
Absolutely! It is a separate front and rear system for a two axle truck in it's original application so I would say to pick up an adjustable proportion valve from Jegs or Summit and slap it in the rear line and adjust it until you're satisfied with the braking results.
Hey Peter, I was down in NSW last fall and had a chance to see some of the countryside doing a little personal pilgrimage from Sydney to Broken Hill and Silverton area where they filmed the Road Warrior. I was hoping to catch the new filming but they had pulled out the week before I arrived...
Yellow Metal is the brass, bronze or the like typically in the tranny like a synchronizer ring or something.
ONE OTHER THING TO CHECK ON THE WINCH!!! -take out the bottom drain plug, take out the side/fill plug and shine a light in it through one or the other so you're able to see the worm...
Just because being a Devil's Advocate is fun sometimes anyone bother to think of this:
Tensile strength of a 1/2" coarse thread Grade 8 bolt is 21,300 lbs. (24,000 for fine thread) There are six of them holding the 10,000 lb winch onto the 14,000 lb truck with the 1/2oz aluminum shear pin...
