Hey congratulations! Very cool find. Interesting notes: The CCKW Hardtop on the front of it (with the M37 military rigged brackets), and the fording kit.
You should contact Charles Talbert at M-Series re-build, even though M-37s are their thing, at the very LEAST he could most definitely point you in to the right place.
Go to vintagepowerwagon.com, I bought brake parts from them, they have the stuff you are looking for.
OR look up M-series re-build, Charles the owner is very knowledgable and will be able to steer you in the right direction.
Got 3(!) of these at a local city airport next to my house, the things really are huge.
A town near me at school (Whately)'s highway department has an Ex-air force one of these, really very cool looking machine.
I double clutch whenever I drive our deuce and a half...there is so much weight in the back with water and equipment (firetruck), and it shifts MUCH smoother when I do so.
That would mean that at one point it WAS in fact an M-42, as M376x6 jokingly said before!
M-42 was a command kit which could be installed on an M-37...included a larger amp voltage system for powering extra radios and the like, amongst other things. M-42s had the rectifier in front of...
We have a small shelf which was built over our left tank on our deuce at work. Fits extra cable, two snatch blocks and the rest of the recovery stuff minus the chains. We have those stored on the back bumper-ettes. In 4 years of driving the truck off road and on, never had problems with the...
When you get to the DMV, ask for a supervisor RIGHT AWAY. This is what I did, and this way you know the person is gonna know what they are doing. I ended up with a really nice guy, who apparently knew all about powerwagons and halftracks by chance
He was more than happy to help me out and...
Funny you should say that, the one we have in the excess property lot at work is a M-37B1, and does have both! Thank you very much, I'd always wondered why/how this could have happened.
I appologise if this has already been posted....my understanding is that the M37-B1 had the door mounted spare (as well as the M-43 Ambulance).
My truck is a '52 which was outfitted with the M-42 command truck kit...I believe this may be the extra radios you guys are talking about? Amongst...
Sasquatch Santa, I really enjoyed your breakdown of the different engines in your latest post, thank you!
I have heard AND observed the same thing (I think)....at work we have 2 WM300s, one with a 230, and one with a 251. I have been told by my boss (someone whos been running these since...
