great vehicles for off roading, cant be beat......if your serious about off roading the 6.2 is not the ideal powerplant. If you know this going in to the deal you'll be very happy with the purchase. Not a bad engine, just not intended for that use other than minor stuff. Good luck2cents
Thanks, come to think of it the front shaft looked basically collapsed in normal run position. Has anyone found a stock shaft from a similiar application that bolts in? Could be something with a TH350/203....or even the very uncommon TH350/205 that used a flange instead of a yoke.....most that I...
Got the tranny out today, wasn't too bad. I'll get pics of the crack when the parts come back from the shop...I usually keep cool little broken parts from these things, got a broken hub, diff cover that looks like a jack-o-lantern froma spider gear rolling up it, piece of a 14 bolt axle I broke...
Update:
Started pulling the tranny today....
2 of the six holes that bolt the dust cover on are stripped and missing bolts...
Both of the rods from the back of the motor mount to the dust cover are gone, threads are ok....
the rod that goes from the transfer pass side to side bell housing...
Trucks that new dont show up here at the local yard, next door to where I go there is a Yard called spaldings, they sell used parts off of newer trucks but the cost us unreal. 6000.00 for a 5.3, 12000.00 for a viper motor, 750.00 for that disc FF you mentioned....better off to stay next door and...
OK, i'll admit that super swampers are the exception to the rule. They count side lug as tread width as it will appear aired down. For a standard steel belted tire the rules definately apply though. What I dont like about swampers is when they come in UPS and 38/14.5/16 really means 36/10.5/16...
I disagree, running a wide tire on a narrow wheel will inevitably wear the center of the tire faster than the edges. That is if you inflate it to the proper pressure. Tire stores wont honor tread wear mileage warranties in situations like this aswell.2cents
One good reason that some get rid of an open diff is to eliminate the weak center pin design. That was my motivation atleast, and others around here. When I changed gears last time I checked the tolerances on the spider gears and it was a loose at best....after consideration I decided to...
Have you had any inquiries about a soft top setup to get rid of the shell on the back? I know a few that would purchase a blazer "bikini top/tonnue cover" if they were available. (from roof line in front to tailgate, sloping, and either held on with buttons or straps The look of your cover(s)...
Very nice work. I am curious why you wanted to stay true 1 ton on the conversion...and why you had a spacer machined instead of bracket that located the caliper correctly w/o spacer. I am doing a conversion on mine this weekend so I just got curious about your motives. Thanks, and again, nice job.
lockers have terrible road manners, hope your planning on mostly off road use of the vehicle. A good limited slip is still the best choice in my opinion..something with a high bias ratio of 3.0 or more (max is 3.5). You can get better results from a posi too by using the brakes a little when one...
I already have all other parts for the conversion except for the short flexible brake line so I ordered the brackets....has anyone here used these brackets? What do you think? The truck they are going on started as a half ton, i am told that no change to the proportioning valve is necassary...is...
