dry ice isn't used because it's cold. it is abrasive in solid form and when it sublimates (goes from solid to gas) it literally floats away, leaving no media to "gum up the works" of whatever you are stripping.
make sure you get the bracket that the pto shiter attaches to (under the floor of the cab)
If I were you I would help/watch it being removed if at all possible ... there are a lot of bolts
I've never heard anything that would support a claim of ujoint superiority, but the widespread notion that they are better is enough to make them more valuable.
I did hear someone say "you shouldn't run tires bigger than 46-" with the non-ujoint"
but I have a sneaking suspicion that may be...
